any spring bear hunters out ther who hunt the north of new brunswick?with any tips on baiting?time of day?how much to use?or any bear hunters anywhere else with any advice...would be greatly appreciated...thanks

I usually start baiting around the first of may. Use any kind of food that stinks to get them coming into the bait. I like using lobster shells and liquid smoke to get them comimg. After there hitting the bait I like using good old bakery supplies.

Stinky seal carcass to toll them in early and Tim Hortons throwaways to keep em interested and handin around. The most luck i have had spotting and taking bears is mid afternoon. Once u have bears hitting your bait, make a schedule of times u check to help determine roughly when your bait is gettin hit. Grease and oil from restaurants is great for bait as well.

Used grease from restaurants mixed about 50/50 with oats if you can get em. they get it all over their paws and leave trails to/from the bait, drawing other, potentially BIGGER bears in. But thats the main course, you wanna start with something with a good stink to it. No point in dropping off a pile of donuts for them when they first wake up cuz they wont eat much of anything for the first few weeks. Good luck, I can't afford to taxidermize another bear this year.:)

I use sweet, never fish as I find they will not touch old fish.
It MAY attract them, I have no idea.

I also never use proteins, lots of carbs as we all know carbs make you lazy and don't keep you full. Why is that a good thing? Well, a bear eating a chunk of road kill can go 3-5 days without eating again. With breads, cakes etc, they have to keep coming back.

I put my bait out yesterday and it was hit at 6:00am today. It looks like a lone boar. I used lobster shells from mothers day every year for the stink effect and also use sweats and grease to keep them there. Liquid smoke is also another great attractant. I suspect next weekend when I get the chance to hunt there will be a few more pictures of others.

First i start out with a stink bait of rotten meat and fish and hang it up a tree in a bucket. You can use old fryer oil around your bait can so the bears will track it all over the place and create a scent trail. For food i usually use bread and molasses and other sweets i can get my hands on. I also use a mixture of vanilla and liquid smoke for my scent bombs. There are a lots of things you can use to attract em this is just what i use. Good luck.

Here is one of a few different bears I have coming in. For those from around here I hunt the salmon river rd area and bears are everywhere.
