Spring Grizz - BC

Thanks for the heads up!

Gibbs, check out page 24 in this PDF (LEH synopsis), region 6-10 is closer to Kitimat than Terrace.

http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wild/documents/leh_06_07.pdf

Geologist, you bet your ass i'll be buying a black bear tag also :D

Mhunt, As i wrote prior I'll be taking my 300 win mag, and some other guns for back up. Perhaps my buddy will come along with me, then he'd watch my back with a fully loaded shotgun (with slugs) if not, well then, i'll figure something out.

On the map maybe, but those mountains that you would have to go over.....

For all practical purposes, the only way in region 6-10 is by road to the Whitebottom or by boat for the reat of the area.

Yey, got a draw for a grizz. 1st time ever. (1st time in 8 years of sending the leh tickets  )

Oh yeah, in region 6-10, Kitimat, etc. should be nice.

Anybody know the average size of grizz up there?
Edit i though that it was 6-11...:( and olek there are more grizz in this area then black bear so be careful and there are also many color fazes in the area as well.... and I may know one way to get back to 6-10 with out a boat but its some ruff terrain and i havent been up there in a very long time... but ya if you are in Kitimat give me drop me a PM and we can get to geather or something for a beer :D

Riley, I'll be glad to grab a beer with ya, same goes for Gibbs505, since he's in the 'hood too ;)

Also if you feel like coming out t the woods while i'm there, that would be cool too. Can always use a backup gunner. As it seems i might be heading up alone if my buddy goes for his grizz hunt up in unit 6-29....

Would be cool to meet some northern CGN'ers :D

The snow has melt by then and you can get pretty much anywhere. I love black bear hunting and this year i want to get a big boy :D I have some 300 win mag 200 grain nosler partions ready for bear season as well.:dancingbanana:

there is an old trail that you have to go out towards Bishcreek they have been doing allot of logging back there so i dont even know if it is even there anymore and its been almost ten years. I do remeber that there is a trail that will take you all the way to the skeena river. Weedene is that the road that goes from kitimat to terrace on the other side of the river? if so then no that is not the road and Ive never heard of whitebottom...

edit: looking at some maps i guess my way was wrong it will not get you to the Skeena :( BUT i did fined another way looking at google maps but really im having trouble determining where 6 10 is located is it that first mountan range if so there is very little area to hunt... i only see one esteray that may be good.

If you have a BC Recreational Atlas, check out page 44. 6-10 is a smaller area on the south side of the Skeena River. It doses seem to inculde all the islands that are in the Skeena.
All the rivers in it drain into the skeena.

Also check the BC Hunting Regs and guide.

I did the same drive a couple of weeks ago. On the way to Rupert it was very sloooow with heavy fog, on the way back I had to wait an extra day and a half cause the highway was closed with a rockslide.

It was my first time through there and there sure is some beautiful country in that area. :)

Is there much of a bear population immediately around Rupert? I'd think so with the rivers, but was told there was only a few blacks and no grizz. Sorry for the hijack. ;)

there is a tone of bears in this area 6-10 6-11 are just loaded with bears I can't remeber the zone number for across the kitimat river but I think its 6-9 and there is allot of bears there too. Infact in the last few years I've seen more grizzlys then blackeys...

riley dude yer scaring the crap outta me here honestly, yer beefing up the area like its gods gift to bear hunters, how bout the fact that you realy need to know yer sh*t to hunt the coastal areas for the dence willow and slide alder dont leave alot of room for a screw up, and yea I know the are arather well, and I know wedene valley and the 1000 road are so grown in you couldnt see a bear sniffin yer behind, a few power lines around onion, mt elizabeth roads not to bad a few years back but they were deactivating the logging parts , shist creek however you spell it would be a beginner grizz hunters worst nightmare and yea theres big bears in there we have shot em, and the beaver pond was pretty much unpassable last time i was there, also remember spring = steelheaders, last thing anyone needs is a wounded grizz on a river there ;)

anyhow thats all just be safe and carefull, I have a few honey holes , maybe sunday we will have coffee, say rosarios , Im sure you will figure out wich 4x4 is mine in the parking lot ;) unless the dam snow dosnt stop then Im only going to terrace 40" swampers dont like snow on the road

Thanks for advising caution in the area bones.

I was up there looking at a possible move into the area, so my reason for asking was not as a hunter looking for bear heaven, but as a potential back country user who wants to know what precautions will be needed.

Well you really do know your $h!t about the Kitimat Vally!:D When was the last time you were down here?
I mainly hunt Shist Creek and I was born and raised in Kitimat, so I know most of the areas to hunt and were you are going to have the best success. Last May long my group pulled 8 big blackys out of shist creeK that was a great hunt i know but there are lots there:D The grizz population is what is alarming me, last fall When I was moose/deer hunting I counted 13 different grizzly bears in one week!
I would not even look at the 1000 anymore... It is way over grown. I agree with ya the only probelem is the damn willows and alders they can make spotting animals hard. But most of the time they are right on the road :D I don't really even hunt Sanders anymore because of this great for deer though :) got 2 deer out of there in 2 years and my step dad got one as well. But why do you say that Shist is a beginner grizzles hunters worst nightmare there are tones back there most of the grizzles Ive seen were back there. Oh and where is this beverdamn you speak of?
You are going to be in Kitimat this weekend?!:D

hey itys heaven up there all the fishing and hunting kicks butt, but I just dont think a person who has never hunted grizz should be picking on the hard places right off the batt, I sure as hell wouldnt lol , but CK you wanna know some sweet spots ask 1 day and we can chat, I know a spot were if you dont see, say 20 bears in 1 evening you suck and shouldnt be there ;)

its a great place if you have work there giver, you wont regret a couple years of rain and snow
