Spring Into Summer WCRA Level III May 19 - 22

so, still approx. 60 slots available and less than two months away ? ? and high # of shooters in the general area...
Summer slam in N.B. (only 70 slots) sold out 5-6 months early...
What's up with that ?
I'm sure this level 3 will be awesome to shoot...

Not everyone has the level of disposable income that would afford them the opportunity to attend. Also, those that could afford to attend might well not be able to afford both this match and the Provincial Championship match and or the Nationals. Choices have to be made.

For what is basically the shooting equivalent of three level I or two level II matches the cost is 2.5 of the cost of three level Is or 1.625 of two level IIs. The cost/benefit or value proposition optics are not all that great.

This match is happening on the Victoria Day long weekend.

Could be cost in such a short period... I'm going to both this match and the Porvincials and that in itself will cost $370 plus gas, food, ammo and spending money. . Then there is the extra cost for the smaller matches lead up to to those match.

Then there is the Nationals... it'll cost me $553 just for accomdations, match fee and a golf shirt.

So if I go to the Nationals as well I'll be spending OVER $1000 in a three month period when you factor in ammo, food, gas, fees, accomodations and spending money.

Who Knows... it may actually fill at the last minute. I believed that happened at last years ESSA's level 3 match.

Don't get misled by the squad postings. There are about 30 spots unspokenfor unless we open Thursday slots. This is the first level 3 hosted by our club, and one of 3 in the area. It's a learning experience for us, and we'll be trying very hard to make this a competitive and enjoyable match for everyone. We're very satisfied with the support we've received so far.

A couple of changes you'll see on the website relating to the draws. In agreement with Double Tap Sports we're donating the proceeds of the Pantera draw to breast cancer. As well, so that we're not competing with the charity draw each participant will receive a free ticket on the M&P donated by Shooters Choice. The stage previews should be available in the next couple of days.

Thanks to everyone who've entered, we look forward to seeing all of you in May.

IOW, it's tooo expensive.

Maybe there should be some discount fee for students and seniors, why not?
We all gonna be in one of those positions in some extension sooner or later.

Level III match is not equal to 3 Level I's.
In same way as World Shoot is not equal to 5 Level I's.

Time to split this thread...
Speaking of level 3s, we just posted anothe one to IPSC Ontario calendar. Right before the Nationals.

This is great. More L III matches in Ontario. My hat goes down to Greenville crew for setting this up. As far as I can see it is Monday and Tuesday format?, just before Nationals.

Upcoming Matches

Alliston 10/04/11 Level I - $20 - 4 stages - 90 rnds
Barrie 07/05/11 Level I - $20 - 5 stages - 85 rnds
Orillia 08/05/11 Level I - $20 - 4 stages - 85 rnds
------------------------------------
TOTAL $60 - 13 stages - 260 rnds

A good mix of short, medium and long COF(s) as those who have, in the past, shot these matches will know.

The range Alliston has is only big enough for a good wide field course. It is way too small for 4 stages they are stuffing in there. Personally I gave up going there.

Not to beat a dead horse...but I don't see the connection between cost and round count...

A high round count doesn't mean a quality match. In fact...when the match is designed specifically for round count...it gets pretty freaking boring (shoot 8 rounds...move two feet, shoot 8 rounds...move two feet..shoot 8 rounds...yawn....)

Note...this is not a refection on any of the matches you referenced...just the spirit of the post

Ah, the spirit of the post: In this day and age Level III matches in Ontario are substantially over priced.

In days of yore, clubs put out substantial money to build really neat props made of plywood and timber. For the most part the props were then painted and otherwise enhanced to help tell the story of the stage. It took a great deal of effort and imagination for a club to put on a Level III match and they were priced accordingly.

These days, and for various reason, the clubs pull out the well used, see through wall sections, along with overturned barrels and various moving target swingers and spinners. Less cost, less effort and higher match fees.

Actually if you factor the gas for all three matches IF the Alliston is still a go because of the AGM, depending on where you live, the price is basically the same as the Waterloo L3 match including a one time trip.

Gas is $1.29 /liter ;)

Besides... I'm just getting all warmed up after 2 -3 stages.

Good much is not about round count, however without good round count there is not great match.
Myself I prefer to shoot long courses over short, more action.
