Hi all. So today at a gun show, I picked up a few spring air rifles. A couple of them do not work/fire when a pellet is installed. One is a Marksman 1790, one is similar to those sold at Princess Auto but made in Hungary, and one is a Crossman Rawhide. The first two #### normally and sound normal when pulling the trigger, with pellet installed of course. But there is only sound, no movement from the pellet. The Rawhide does not build pressure while cocking the foregrip. After 5 or so pumps, and a pull of the trigger, it simply sounds like the trigger group moving kind of like a deep dull 'click'. Is it possible that the seals are gone in these air rifles? Could they be made with leather if they are broken? Or worst case, does anybody know what could be wrong with these rifles? Thank you in advance for any and all help provided.

The Telly has a riveted on leather seal that after disassembly can be soaked seal side down in a disposable cup in Neatsfoot silicon oil for a week or so. it will soak it up like a sponge .Mainsprings can be bought from D+L Airgun $7 utility springs.I'd have to look at which # spring.Harold

Thank you. I had joined the other forum linked to also. Today I took the air rifle apart to see what the problem may be. Lo and behold. Piston seal, what's that? It was completely missing/broken down in the tube! It looks like I will be making one now. I am just looking for ideas for a rivet and have been given a couple of options so far to try. Thank you.

Those rifles ran at just under 600fps new so after you make a new seal soak it and re-assemble see what your velocity is. For the price of a spring I'd replace it and shoot it for 20 years.I head shoot grouse with mine to avoid scaring deer in big game season.Picked up a second one pretty much new for $30 at a gun show.......Harold
