Springfield 1903 mk 1

Oh, my!

So very nice!

A GREAT piece of history, too. If you find a Pederson Device for it, you can fire it with French 7.65 Longue ammo.

You HAVE to take this one to the range. Jaws will drop, little old ladies will slip in the puddles of drool, the RSO will turn GREEN with envy.... and so will most of the rest of us. A fine centrepiece for a fabulous display.

Nice dos it still have the original barrel, and what's the date on the barrel?
I have had a few of them over the years and some had counter-bored barrels.
I finally found one that's a keeper in my 03, 03 A3, and 1922 Springfield collection
Nice piece to have in a Springfield collection.

If the barrel is sound, sights are tight, and bedding is per spec the M1903 is always an accurate shooter. I see a few replacement 03-A3 parts on it incl the bolt, cocking piece, and stamped stacking swivel. Mk Is will have either 1918, 1919, and possibly 1920, dated original barrels with the "SA" and "flaming bomb" stamps behind the front sight.

The barrel is dated 1919,rifling is decent but groove are a bit frosty probably due to corrosive ammos, barrel look to be counter bored(i forgot to post the pic) and the flaming bomb stamp is there, the seller told me. Always wanted a 1903, not a new rifle but is mine now and i would have regreted to not buy it.

It is surprising how well a worn barrel can shoot. I have a Remington M1903 which I have re-barreled with a new SA barrel. The original barrel was lightly pitted and worn to the point of rejection with a .303 muzzle and .307 throat on the GI gauge. It still shot 3 inch groups with handloads.

I was at the range today with my choice Remington '03 built in October 1942. At least the barrel was. It was made before the change to the '03A1 with stamped parts and the peep rear sight.

A father and son pair were bagged up at the bench zeroing their scoped rifles, feeling really good about hitting the 12" 100 and 18" 150m gongs - most of the time. Then I sat down with the Springfield and slung up in appropriate military fashion. The next 20 rds made life sheer hell for the 100m and 150m gongs!

Damn, I love that rifle!

nice pickup Joce !

I was also looking at this one last night...sadly, no more fun money right now with two Mauser's in the mail lol

I'll be inheriting my Dad's early serial 1903 one day...perfect condition, but sported by my grandfather. He was a cabinet maker and did an exquisite job. I'd take issue with anyone who called it bubba'd. It has taken a lot of moose, deer and bear.

Have fun looking at it...I assume she won't be run ?

Take care

Awesome...have fun with it !

Was geared up and ready to head to the hills this morning...but we are in a fog so thick you could cut it into bricks and build a house lol. Figured it wouldn't be the safest place to have the wife and daughter.

Crown land close to Vancouver can be a scary place to try and plink these days..especially with 50 yrds of visibility....a lot of dudes you wouldn't invite over for dinner up there. It's a shame...I try to clean up my mess and a bit more....but you'd need a bulldozer and dump truck to do it right.

Have a great weekend !
