Gorgeous gun. Admittedly I'm a 1911 noob and have so far only stuck to striker fired pistols. But that makes me want one real bad...

Do you think a drop in beavertail like yours would work on my 1911 colt commander frame?

Should work. May require minor fitting, but that is the very gun this part was designed to drop into I believe.

Nice... as for the Springfield GI models... how do you tell if it is one? Any specific markings etc? I am new to the 1911's...

Thanks. They are Springfield 3-dot combat sights. Same ones used on the mil spec model.
