Perhaps you should visit the NS hunting site. A member is there now looking for a qualified smith in NS perhaps you can share where you found one and don't tell me Brian
You may be shocked how many guys we have here on CGN with gunsmith knowledge/ qualifications and a history of fixing what are now vintage guns

I am with madtrapper on this if you are reloading it as you say there is more than likely nothing wrong with your gun just how you are loading it
If there is an issue something is broken/missing on the bolt or slide since in all honesty this model of shot gun was not classed as high end and used normally for skeet or trap so would not have had a ton of rounds put through it hunting to develop the wear you are being told happens
Yes there were a ton of issues with them breaking parts which is why few guys held onto them but wearing out from use was not one of them. I remember tossing a few of them when cleaning out dad's shop with broken receivers and trigger guards since if I recall they were made from just pot metal

I was trying my best all along not to say it but it has to be said in case you plan on wasting any money on it

So instead of offering advice or help...you start insulting how many and what kinds of shotguns I own.

I collect things including usage manuals for most popular shotguns old and newer. I looked at the following, Winchester model 12 and model 1200. Ithaca model 37, Mossberg model 500, Browning model BPS and Remington model 870. Not a single manufacture recommends loading a pump shotgun the way you do. Not saying how you do it is wrong it just is not how the gun makers would have you load the gun. To each his own but I feel that having the gun "cocked and locked" would make things a little easier for you.

I have always loaded my pump actions and even one of my semi auto's tube first and then cycle a shell into the chamber. I agree with you that most manufacturer manuals instruct you to load the chamber first then top up the magazine, but some also give alternate ways such as cycling the action to load from the magazine. Like you said "To each his own" and this depends on the particular shotgun. In the case of the Springfield / Stevens / Savage pump actions, the preferred way to load these shotguns is to load one in the chamber first, then it is easier to load the tube magazine. This is because of the design of the bolt carrier which has the shell stop under it. I am confident now that there is nothing wrong with my Springfield shotgun and that the looseness is normal for these older design shotguns. Thank you for your insight.
