springfield armory mil-spec 1911

Unless things have changed in the last couple years (could be, I haven't been following it lately) all Springfield frames and slides are forged in Brazil. The difference comes in where the pistol is finished and assembled. A common belief is that the serial prefix is an indication "N" vs "NM" but I don't know if that is fact.
Either way, they are great value in a pistol. My "N" serialed Mil Spec is a terrific shooter, as are my other Springfields. I've had a plunger tube come unstaked on two pistols but no other issues. A Mil Spec is a good choice.

To my knowledge only the Pro is built using US forged major components, there are also probably some other Custom Shop guns that are the same, but the majority are now built using Imbel forgings - at one time they used forgings from Quebec. Springfield had to reorganize in the 1990's (they were effectively broke) because they were selling too much, for too little - I doubt they're making that mistake now.
