Who's got one? .45 ACP or 9mm? What do you think of it?

Please post your reviews here.... :)

I got the RO SS 45acp
I don’t think I’m qualified to do a review.
I have a bunch of 225 g powder coated cartridges done up, just waiting for a chance to test.

Two things I can say is, one, it’s a very tight fit.
And the trigger is awesome, I’m guessing around a 3 lb pull, which is crisp and clean.

It's alright. Mine was the operator version in 9mm. So with a light rail. Finish was meh, trigger and action was a little rough for my taste. Sights were way off. Shot almost 4'' too high at 25m. Sold that POS and never looked back. Coming from a guy who owned a Trophy Match and currently have a TRP Operator. I'd save my money and get a TRP instead.

I have one in .45 acp and I just love it

A few years ago I had a colt series 70 that I had upgraded with Wilson combat barrel, bushing and controls. It was really a nice shooter but after getting the Range officer I just stopped bringing the colt out any more.

It feeds SWC bullets without any trouble and shoots so well one of the guys I do bullseye with give me the stink eye when I decide to use it.

The outside finish is kind of a matte black that may be a bit boring. The safety leaver is plenty wide enough to comfortably hang the thumb on. Beverly tail grip safety is very nice with a raised palm pad for positive engagement. Adjustable rear target sight is very much like a Bomar style and makes for a good picture of the square front sight which seems to be non reflective.

The trigger out of the box was a bit gritty and I planned on eventually replacing it but after polishing all of the parts in the system it turned out just how I like it.

I have a RO in 9mm. Not bad. Fit was pretty good, not much rattle. Finish was good but edges were on the sharp side. Out of the box, the trigger felt a bit heavy for a 1911 but broke crisply. First order of business was to get rid of that safety mainspring housing and replace it with a metal one with a 17lb mainspring. I upgraded the front sight for a Dawson fiber optic.

After a full strip and some fine tuning, it breaks cleanly at 2.75lbs. Accuracy was very good, better than my skills. Barrel bushing and barrel had minimal play. The chamber was tighter than my Shadow 2 and I had to adjust the seating depth and resize my brass with a Lee Undersize die and run my reloads through a Lee carbide FC die. Than goodness for progressive presses.. Brass ejection was nice and consistent with good force.

Pros:
Well fitted parts
Very little rattle
Tight barrel/bushing fit
Adjustable rear sight
Skeletonized hammer
Very nice wood grips with SA logo
Accurate
Nice lockable carry case
Reliable ejection
Series 70

Cons:
Cheap plastic safety mainspring housing
Sharp edges
No frontstrap checkering
Heavy 3.5-4lb trigger
Solid black front sight
Cheap paddle style holster and mag pouches
Tight/short chamber

If I had to buy another 1911 in 9mm, I would spend the extra on a Sig Traditional 9mm. Ambi safety, dehorned and deburred, frontstrap checkering and standard mainspring housing. Those upgrades alone easily make up the cost to upgrade an RO.

Alot of mixed reviews here...

Kind of surprising because in the States its pretty much unanimous that this pistol is hands down the best 1911 under 1K usd ( especially the SS .45acp model ).

I cannot find a negative review on the net.
that been said, I should say that sharp edges are regular complaints.

The older models were made in Brazil, new models are marked US made, maybe this have to do with the mixed review.

I'm very curious to hear more about the RO ( SS model ) as I'm in the market for a .45 acp 1911.
I'm looking al several options and this one is sure appealing.

The Springfield Armory brand have a strong following in the USA. Just like Colt.

I tried higher end 1911 and basicly, with the RO, you pay for what you get. For the same price, I'd get the Sig Tacops of the Elite Stainless traditional. Better finish, better mags and more features. If you don't care about the external extractor, then go for it. If you want to stick with Springfield, get the TRP. Mine shot over 20 000 rounds and it's still tight. I had to replace the extractor and firing pin spring.
