Thinking of an SA in 45, but there seems to be a lot of negative comments on them here on CGN. Is it simply because of the grip safety or are there other reasons for the shyness toward ownership? I tried one last season at the range and I thought it has a much better grip than the Glock, which I was also able to try, and the trigger is certainly a whole lot better on the XD I thought. The trigger is probably better because the XD fully cocks the striker, unlike the Glock which is actually a double action. Accuracy was certainly there and I shot it much better than the Glock. I would be interested in your thoughts as an XD owner. Thanks.

I’ve had a XDM .45 for years and love it. The Powder custom trigger kit made a good trigger great. I’ve not had a jam yet. I find it points best for me too. I’ll eventually get a 10mm too.

Of my 4 handguns, it’s my favorite. Best sights, most comfortable, great trigger and never had a jam. Depending on what happens with this handgun ban crap, will buy one in 9mm.

Glocks are not double-action firearms. The action of the slide as it moves rearward to eject the spent case half cocks the trigger.
As the trigger is then reset for the next shot, the trigger cocks the other 1/2 when actuated.

One of the issues with the XD line besides being ugly is it has a high bore axis, or, it sits high up in your hand. A high bore axis is undesirable, & makes recoil less manageable. Unsimilarly, the Laugo arms 9mm has a very low bore axis, but who’s gonna spend $5K on a gas-operated 9mm pistol? Plus the barrel is factory pinned to the frame.

You might investigate S&W’s M&P in 45, it’s in that price range.

I have an XD 45, and like it a lot. The only minor thing I don't like is that the loaded chamber indicator quickly gums up with powder residue and stays in the "loaded chamber" position after a few shots. I can fix that myself, just haven't gotten to it yet.

As for "ugly" I think the XD's look just fine, but to me the current XDM's are better, and are actually very attractive looking.

Well, actually, Glocks are technically a double action as the first part of trigger travel cocks the striker mechanism 'the rest of the way' to the fully cocked position. :)

Ive had my XDM in 9mm. 5.25 model for about 9 years. 10k+ rounds through it.

Best gun I have ever shot hands down. The aftermarket parts you can get for it are great too.

Springfield’s position on XDm45 is that it’s intended to fire ball ammo only. SWC are reported to jamb on extraction.
I’ve had my ejector break on an XD40. The magazine lip would slam into the ejector when inserted a bit too assertively. Springfield sent me a new one back then. Actually two of them on my request. That was the very year these Croatian made XDs were introduced. Now I’m hearing they won’t sell spare parts and want you to send the pistol to them for warranty work. Parts availability seem to be the biggest issue across all XD models.
However, Springer Precision sell enhanced XD/XDM most commonly needed parts. Like ejectors, extractors, triggers, strikers, springs.
Not sure if they ship internationally though.
I’ve replaced the guiderod for a tungsten one and an extra power spring. All else is original and has been reliable.
Extremely accurate, very ergonomic and points quite well naturally. Better trigger than Glocks.

Also like that XDs have a fully supported chamber.

I don’t mind the grip safety being a 1911 sort and Springer Precision sells a more positive grip safety if needed.

With XD45s, I’ve read ejecting a live round would jamb the slide solid, but that was with XDS.

I was after an XDM 5.25 when they first hit the market but they took forever to get up here. They shoot fine and I found no grips with the ones I have shot. I think the biggest thing going against them up here is that they are not so common and aftermarket support it very limited.

I have an XDM45 5.25 and it’s incredibly accurate - bullseye accurate. The 9mm version is being used in Bullseye Service pistol matches with good success.

I used to own xdm in 9mm. Not a single hiccup. You take it in your hands and feel the quality of manufacturing and materials used. Controls are the great. Proper slide release. I liked the look, IMO its the most beautiful striker. Potential mag capacity is also a plus. The only thing I did not like was the grip safety. Not so much safety itself but the fact that replaceable grip panels would not affect the top area where safety is. So there could be a gap where your hand webbing is. At least with my hands I had this gap. And I could not hold it comfortably with large panels. That was a deal breaker for me. If the make new model with full size grip panels like m&p I would buy it immediately. Because apart of this drawback IMO its the best striker gun.

I have one in 9mm, its been reliable so far. They have decent triggers for a striker fired gun and decent ergonomics, for me anyway. I get the hate though, they are kind of ugly, and the grip saftety....seems silly. Wish there were more aftermarket for them. But on the plus side...they're pretty cheap to pickup used
