Wondering if anyone has a Springfield Armory M1A rifle in any configuration? If so, how do you like it? What did you pay?

I had three, a Super Match (1990) a National Match (2006) and a Loaded that I bought recently from Wanstalls. I love it. I prefer the Loaded configuration because I can field strip it without caring of the bedding. Bedding bugs me even if I have dissasemble the rifle only once a year... For REAL accuracy I use a bolt rifle but this is simply a personnal matter.

I have a standard M1A - It's a nice rifle and functions flawlessly - BUT...

...Way overpriced.

Would I buy another, no - I'd buy 2 Norincos and a case or two of ammo and if I could do it over I would have bought 2 Norincos and 2 or 3 cases of South African 7.62 instead.

Thats what happens when you buy before you research...

...But like I said before, It is a good rifle, no doubt about it.

I currently have a Super Match. I have had a national match and a USMC built m14 which was sold by an ex...B@*^%.

I will not sell these but only pass them down to the younguns.

I just wish I could afford one

They are pricey.....but.....have had some time with a very nice LOADED recently.
It's very nice ;) Shoots well.

Can't knock it. I'm an open minded M1A whore :D

I have a socom 16 I love everything abought it.I just put it in a boyds walnut stock what a beauty.I just need a 1907 sling to complete her.

Thanks for all the opinions. It always comes down to the nicest guns are the most expensive. Think I'll still get one.

I also like my loaded M1A.
Just to let you know, you can get other american M14 brands like LRB and 7,62 imported by Prophet river, Questar or another private importer.

Her name is ROCHELLE and I love her ... she has never let me down ... Springfield Armoury M1A standard in a USGI walnut dress ... ;)

Own a Norc, would own a Springfield if I could afford one.

No doubt Norc's could use some tweaking and Springfields have a nice fit and finish but that's reflected in the price.

Buy either, you'll be happy :)

Like it? Love it.

I started with an M1a standard I bought in the early 90s for about $800ish with taxes. Changed the barrel, iron sights, op rod to NM items. Still love it.

Are they less expensive?

Do a little shopping by yourself. I was curious so I looked and 762mmfirearms rifles start at 2000$. James River armory have a rebuilt M1A for 1800$. If you add the 250$ import fee, tax and shipping, it will cost more than a new M1A standard.
If you buy a new M1A in the US for 1500$, maybe you'll save 1-200$ at the end of the process but you won't have any dealer to ask if you need the warranty.
If you look for a used rifle in the US, you may find better deals but you won't inspect it and a private seller will be reluctant about the export process.

I think the import process is not so great to save 100$. It's great to get yourself a great rifle like a LRB M25 with all USGI parts.

If your budget is under 2100$, I'd suggest you wait to find a used M1A in Canada, ideally with some USGI parts. It could take you several months to find the right one however.

where did you find the South African 7.62?

About a dozen years ago, it was being sold by the crates and battle packs.

Not long ago, 7.62 was cheaper than 5.56

Man I really missed out :(

But on the matter of the springfield . I handled one, the quality of the finish is better than the norcs but the performance out of the box is probability on par with the newer norcs ( unless the loaded or match model then the accuracy will be higher)
