LRB M25 has a proper scope mount system. All other M14 scope mounts are a bit of a trick.

If you just want iron sights then it does not matter so much.
 
You won't go wrong with the M21 if it's what you like, the only drawback is there are better scope mounting options (well one, the M25 mentioned) but the M21 is a top shelf rifle you will really enjoy. So if it's to your liking, plenty of mounts have proven excellent on the standard M14 and you'll do just swell. And don't let the Norinco / Chinese crowd get to or sway you, your choice is a good one. :)
 
I'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to scope it, or shoot it with irons. This has a huge effect on the decision as If i go with irons, the baseline M1A will be good enough. I have considered the LRB M25, but there's some dirt on it on the internet about them not quite being to USGI spec. Furthermore, springfield actually beefed up their reciever to make them stronger and I believe (feel free to correct me) their rifles have a life time warrenty. I can't argue with the LRB's integrated scope mount. That is extremly appealing.
 
I owned both up until yesterday evening (LRB and a M1A), and would have to say if shooting irons the M1A is great. Milspec doesn't mean a whole lot, the M1A will diverge from milspec much further than the LRB, which is near dead on. I quite frankly don't care about milspec however, as it's not even necessarily the best way to go about building a product. Yes, the M1A is a heavier receiver than the LRB and some feel it's stronger, it could well be, neither will fail on you in your lifetime.

Irons on the M14 are almost better than a scope, and that's the only way I shoot mine practically. They are probably the best iron sights ever put on a rifle, and the gun is built for them and doesn't accommodate scopes all that well. You have an absurd sight over bore height with a scope in an M14 unless "scout" mounted.
