Does anyone on here own one or have some trigger time with one?
I know a friendbought a Colt 1911A1 about 6 years ago and the trigger and mainspring housing were plastic.
Are the Springfield Armourmy 1911A1`s A quality shooter?
 
I have one, and I know it can shoot way better than I can, that is for sure, you don't specify which model, but here is mine...

That sounds like a 1991A1 not a 1911A1. I don't know if they are still plastic or not thought the earleir 1991A1's were.

The Springfield Mil-Spec is a nice basic 1911 style pistol. It is mostly the same as the GI but with a lowered ejection port and larger sights.
 
i have a springfield g.i. and i love it. unfortunately, i don't have much experience with other 1911s to compare it to. had it for almost three years, no problems. it is a solid gun, and i would like to find another to go with it(so my son has one to shoot). he'll have to settle for a springfield mil-spec, since that was my impulse buy last week. still looking for another g.i. though.
 
I've owned and own 1911A1's and love them. Classic... 1911 battle sights, reliable, battle proven and have new mods that make it hard to look anywhere else.......rails, ambi-safeties, able to customize to your personal pref.....Get one, you'd be glad you did.
 
A fellow shooter at my club just got a Springfield 1911AI GI Model last winter, it' all 'metal' I can't say if it's all steel or not, but no plastic.

I recently got a STI Spartan, I was a little surprised to see a plastic trigger on it when I got it.... After shooting it..... I could give a rats azz if the trigger was made of cheese, it shoots straight and its got a real nice smooth trigger (thanks gunnar!).

Plastic parts are still just parts. If assembled correctly, and tuned by a pro,. The differance is negligable.

I just acquired an SA 1911A1 GI. In my limited time with it I found that I love shooting it. A quick cleaning/dissasembly didn't reveal any plastic parts.
 
Great gun, was a little disappointed when I got my Springfield 1911 GI.45 with nice US grip panels and saw that on the frame it was written "Made In Brazil"...
 
I like mine a lot too. Bought if from another CGN'er. It's actually my 3rd Springer. I think they're great shooters but I have bad luck with the chrome extractors in the Stainless models. They are weak and break too easy. But hey, it's a cheap part that's easily replaced. Unfortunately you don't see many Springfield 1911's on the store shelves much anymore. I think Springfield concentrates more on their XD series of pistols. Probably a much higher GP for them then turning out 1911's. Here's a pic of my 9mm:

The XD line which is basically the HS-2000 is made in Croatia, which is their service pistol.
The 1911s are made by IMBEL Brazil, which is the state military contractor for their service rifles and pistols.

Springfield Armory is nothing but a name brand today, it is not the same company from WWII.

I have no problem with IMBEL and HS Produkt, they make good stuff.
