Springfield Armoury 1911A1

I`m a little apprehensive about being made in Brazil.

Nothing to worry about at all, from what I have read, just about anywhere

some are Brazil, some are US

Sometimes the US cannot meet the demand so some are done in the Brazil plant

But if I am not mistaken all are assembled and fitted in the US (not sure where I read that)

Not true. Almost all SA 1911's are fully assembled in Brazil. Only the most high-end custom shop models are assembled in the US. US assembled ones will not have made in Brazil stamped, but the frames are all still made by IMBEL Brazil.

I'm of the alternate opinion, most US products are garbage. USA quality is a thing of the past.

Maybe your right, I can`t say i was impressed with Winchesters products the last 10 yrs or so. Sharp edges, milling marks all over, and didn`t compare accuarcy wise to old original 1894`s.
Ayway I hope your right I just bought a 1911A1 GI from Frontier, just have to let the gov do all the paper work crap.

Does your serial start with NM? If so, it is finished off in USA.

Some of the Loaded pistols, MC Operator, TRP and so forth (All pistols NM marked) travel to USA as rough forgings of slide and frame, and Springfield in Geneseo, IL does the finish machining, assembling and fitting done in the US plant.

The rest are all completely finished back in Brazil.

Yes it begins with "NM"

That's correct, I have an early model that was introduced in the late 80's. It has no "Made in Brazil" markings anywhere and has an NM prefix. After much confusion in many gun forums about whether they were made in the US,or where assembly took place, I called Springfield directly for an answer. All Springfield Frames are forged in Brazil by IMBEL. The very early ones were fitted and assembled in the US, hence, no made in Brazil markings.
Later models were assembled in Brazil and shipped to the US as complete guns. I can't say if this is the case with the high end models such as the TRP. Needles to say, my Mil Spec Springfield is one of the most accurate pistols I own, the slide to frame fit is superb, as good as any custom gun, and all steel parts.
