So I understand the Springfield Brake available from Brownells is a pretty popular brake around here.

I was wondering if it made the rifle noticeably more loud, since brakes usually tend to do that. I would like to use my M-14 for hunting this year and would not like to go deaf from the shot lol.

And about the castle nut on the Norc M-305, Is it normal for it to be super tight? I Completely buggered it up trying to take it off. Granted I was being a bubba and not using the right tool (was using adjustable pliers) and ended up just stripping the knurling (Its still 100% functional, just ugly now). I tried heating it lightly, but that SOB does not want to move. And yes I removed the set screw. Will a standard one fit the Norc barrel? Are the threads different?

Also, this is a go to purchase from Brownells with no Exp. Permit right? Since its under the 100 limit? Is the limit 100 before shipping? What about taxes when it comes across?

Thanks.

Yea you should be g2g, I believe the limits 100$ before taxes and shipping, it's 100$ total in parts... I have had orders that were 104$ after everything and they came through no problems

There's a guy that sells them in the EE for $100

Also a regular castle nut from brownells, you need your norc one as the threads are different.

Castle nut pliers are about $20... they're definately worth investing in...

:)

ok, what else is a good thing to order? I am going to order the brake kit, then on a second order a NM guide rod, New recoil spring, shimm kit and a sadlak piston.

Order the Sadlak Op spring guide, Wilson spring. Then order a Sadlak piston. Then order an oversized bolt release, love it! Yes, it cost more in shipping, but you do get it and don't wait ages!!!

Henry;)

I received this notice from Brownells today:

SKU Number Product Name Unit Price Qty Total
969-166-300 16630 MKA/M14 RECOIL SPRING $13.99 1 $13.99
***NOTE*** SIR: DUE TO DDTC RESTRICTIONS
***NOTE*** REGARDING THE NON-REGISTRATION
***NOTE*** OF MANUFACTURERS, ITEM(S) HAVE BEEN
***NOTE*** CANCELED FROM YOUR ORDER. THANK YOU.

Seems they will ship the spring, but not the spring guide item below:

M14/M1A OPERATING ROD SPRING GUIDE PICE $38.99
Mfr:SADLAK INDUSTRIES

Guess I"l have to locate one from some other supplier.

sadlak won't ship their spring guide rods to canada, nor will brownells ship them either.

Fabsports carries them when their not backordered, but they've been backordered for about a year now :S

You can order the badger ordnance spring guide rod from brownells, its pretty good. Doesn't seem to have the following that Sadlak has but those that have purchased it (including me) like it quite well.

Happy hunting!

Just order the NM Badger Ordinance or Springfield Armory op rod spring guides instead. Brownells will ship these with no problem.
Be careful about ordering USGI spec. gas pistons like the Sadlak for use in Norinco gas cylinders, as the gas cylinders tend to have a slightly larger ID than USGI spec. Your shiny new Sadlak piston may not work nearly as well as the stock one.

You may want to check out Springfield Armory's web site from time to time as well. They recently had the muzzle brake on sale for $55 (over now) and will ship to Canada also.

On my build I replaced the Chinese castle nut with the Springfield castle nut, the threads were the same and believe it or not the SA nut looked better too.

I also ordered all the SA parts from Brownells with no problems, Just order their National Match parts. I still have their gas cylinder on back order. The gas lock threads are different though so I will have to use the Chinese lock.

Btw my rifle is the Canam shorty so YMMV

Here's my thread that chronicles my build from start to finish, have a look it may answer some of your questions...

I have a couple of them mounted and they are a little louder and the muzzle lift after the shot has decreased .These are the only ones I have are used so I cant compare them to other makes for you.I feel they are worth it and you get castle nut pliers with it as well.
Check the threads and you wil find pics of home made castle nut pliers made out of large vicegrips.
The $100 limit is before taxes and shipping...and a standard castle nut is different than a Norc .

Hmm ok, So I 0laced an order for the brake, and then another order for some other parts.

Just got word that Brownells canceled the order for the brake due to restrictions.

Did i miss something here?

Was it this one that you ordered ? If so I dont understand it either as mine was shipped ...under $100 ..no problem

So apparently they just reclassified the brake as "Critical Military Equipment" in the last few weeks. So, looks like no more Springfield brakes for us Canadians.

So, Looking at oher options now. Anyone know how difficult it would be to mount an FAL FH on an M-14?
