I am thinking of buying a pair of Springfield GI 45s. It is less than other springfield 1911 models thats why two. I was wondering (1)if all after market parts will fit this gun? (2) Why is this gun so cheap what is it missing?

It doesn't have adjustable sights. It's parkerized instead of stainless. It may not feed hollowpoints well (I never tried, this may be wrong). It has no ambi safety or the beavertail grip safety. It's very stock compared to the IPSC race guns.

And yes, I own one.

yes it can be upgraded with any 1911 parts.
The Mil-spec is sort of an upgraded version. It has better sights and a flared ejection port for not much more money.

Can it be upgraded with adjustable sights and Generic 1911 after market parts.
I never quite understood why people want to buy cheap guns and than spent tons of money upgrading it; instead of getting something decent to start with... If you were to decide to sell it latter you'll end up loosing quite a few bucks.

If I wanted two cheap 1911s I'd get Norincos, or buy one loaded/costom gun. GI is basically a bare bone 1911 for twice the price of the Norinco....

If you can afford it I would look at the Springfield 1911A1 Loaded. Mine didn't cost me an arm or leg and it is a lot of gun for the money. The problem I have with entry level 1911A1s is you are going to sink money into altering them and most of the alterations are already done on a Springfield 1911A1 Loaded. Regards, Richard :D

If you are going the Springfield route, IMO, go for the Operator or the TRP. I shot a students Operator on course and it was sweet.

I do find it ironic, that in my observations of shooters over the years, that the guys that buy the inexpensive 1911's and then practice can shoot way better than the guy that buys the cadillac 1911, brags about it, but then only shoots a couple times a year, as the cadillac 1911 is no more than a safe queen. :D
