Springfield Loaded (PX9152L)...........Kimber?

I finally decided to take the plunge and buy myself a high-end 1911. I'll be selling my Norinco 1911 to fund it, and I have about $1300 (preferably less) to spend. I want adjustable sights, and stainless steel construction, and have it narrowed down to 2 pistols. I really like the looks of the Springfield Loaded model number PX9152L and had my heart set on that (about $1300). But then I heard how much "better" Kimber's were, and now I have my sights on a Kimber Stainless Target 2 (about $1200). I've heard Springfield components are cast vs. forged, but on their website the model I want (PX9152L) says the frame and slide are both forged, any thoughts? Are Kimber's Forged? What pistol would you buy and why?

It should also be noted, that I don't shoot factory ammo, I reload all my .45 acp. Would any of these two guns/brands shoot reloads better/more reliably?
 
i just purchased a kimber pro covert II with ct laser grips and i love it , I didn't shop much it was just kinda sparatic.
 
Both Kimber and Springfield are forged. As far as quality is concerned, neither is at the top of the heap. You would be much better off with a Smith & Wesson IMO.
 
I want a true 1911, true to the original design, where all/most of the parts are interchangeable etc.....I really like the S&W but the external extractor is a turn-off. I've only see them at wholesalesports, but who knows if they have them in stock. Nice looking gun though...

Exactly. If you want something close to the original design, your only choices (other than Norinco) are Colt and Springfield GI/Milspec.

No. AFAIK STI, Ed Brown, and Norinco are the only (widely available, current production) sources of the true (unmolested) 1911A1. (The old Kimbers were, but the II means the proprietary internal "safety".)

I wish Kimber hadn't come out with the II series, then my decision would be easy.....I may have to look into STI 1911's I always thought they were totally different....would you happen to know what models are "true" to the original?
 
Armseast has a Dan Wesson "Point Man 7", Dan Wessons are modeled after Ed Brown pistols, they are in your price range and everyone who has one says they're excellent

I thought you were referring to the superfluous firing pin "safety" (70 series vs. 80 series, etc.). (They all are 70 series.) Maybe that isn't what you meant. Here is STI's website:

I own the PX9152L and it is my favourite gun.Looks great at the range and is deadly accurate. I went with this one due to the adjustable trigger. Your Kimber will only come with 1 mag where as the Springfield will have two.FYI
