Springfield M-14 ?

Or you could buy 3 Norcs for the same price. Or two, and tweak them to be just what you want.
buy the norc and keep the goods ..throw away the stock ect and build a sweet m-14 for less than a Springfeild M1A ( stock )
I looked into this route and came to the conclusion that its not worth the money unless its going to be a stock / mint safe queen for collecting purposes. but then what fun is that. Ive got a norc on the way and am following alot of these guys path and making my own custom.

Having owned many Norc's, I would rather have 1x Springfield than own 3x M14S
Or get an M1 Garand.
Think of it this way, not that they are both better than each other & vice versa, but for some it would the diff erence between a Chinese copy Harley Davidson and an American made one. (The authentic is the one collectors would rather have.)
If you want to save some $$, nothing wrong with the chinese one.

I would agree with you IF you are talking about the "REAL" M14 made at the Springfield Armory and I don't mean the company called Springfield Armory and the M1A...
...I have one of those(M1A) and when I bought it brand new it cost me what 5 Norcs cost and DOES NOT PERFORM ANY BETTER(OR WORSE).
But then I could never own a "real" Springfield Armory M14 as I don't have 12.X (3 is it?)
But I agree about the quality of a "real" Garand, my brother has a "real" Garand(not new SA) stamped International Harvester, the barrel was switched out for a Danish(VAR) and it is indeed a beautiful shooter.
M1As have been made in a number of versions over the years. The best ones were probably made when GI parts were available, and only the receiver was aftermarket. Current ones do have the name of an American company on the cast-in-Montreal receiver, assembled with aftermarket parts made who knows where. I bet if they could import the parts, it would be a cast-in-Canada receiver with Chinese parts.

Average issues on Norcs
- Badly indexed barrel
- Fibreglass hand guard missing
- Fibreglass hand guard too long
- Crappy Chu wood stock
- Roughly machined everywhere
- Bad headspace
- Feeding problems
- Loose hand guard/front band
- Loose operating guide rod
- Non centred operating rod
- Offset gas piston
- Crappy trigger pull
- Metal work crude
- Crappy rear sight/off centre/loose
- Front sight base on the flash hider assembly machined incorrectly
- Flash hider had a lot of "flash" left over from a poor QC
- Flash hider out of spec
- Flash hider offset
- Cocking effort problem (op rod binding on wood)

There is no such thing as a non restricted Springfield M14 in Canada. The Springfield M1-A is a non restricted clone that is available at an outrageous price. A Norc with a couple of hundred bucks into it leaves u with a far better rifle and tons of cash left over. You can even engrave it "SPRINGFIELD " iffn yo want to .

Have seen many of the same issues with out of the box sproingfields as well.
A new in the box chinese M14S rifle (not a polytech) according to many U.S. sites has an unfired value of 1200.00 USD
Norc oprods are arguably BETTER than most usgi and springfield op rods as they are ONE PIECE forged
Springfield receivers are KNOWN to be out of spec to G.I. machining measurements/tolerances.
each "brand" has it's issues. I buy my norcs for the receivers, barrels and oprods... for 399 ish... a freakin steal of a bargain. I choose to swap all other parts out to G.I. but that's just me.
what makes a 2000.00 out of the box springfield better than my USGI dressed norc (cost 1050.00 ALL in and has a match chamber)
bottom line..... buy what ever makes you happy
