Springfield M1A prices SKY HIGH

I can get a Loaded Synthetic for $2,095.00 NIB....Should I retire the Norinco M14S and take the plunge? I want one soooo bad, but wouldn't be the best move financially...why cant I be rich?

I would say it depends why you want it...if you just want an SAI for whatever reason go for it.

If you want something better than a Nork there are better decisions you could make.

Personally if I was going to commit 2 thousand bucks to an M14 I'd commit a few hundred more and get an LRB...SAIs have never particularly impressed me, although to be honest I've probably only shot three or four. But for the money...forget it. Get an LRB.

I personally think the M1A Loaded will kick the sh*t out of a Norinco M14S in craftsmanship, and overall quality in parts. No problems with my Norinco, but itchen to get a premier M1A Loaded.

22" CARBON MATCH MED WEIGHT BBL & NATIONAL MATCH FLASH SUPRESSOR, TWIST 1:11, PARKERIZED FINISH, BLACK FIBERGLASS STOCK, MATCH TUNED TRIGGER, 1/2 MOA WIND ADJ & 1 MOA ELEV ADJ REAR SIGHT, .065" FRONT SIGHT, DETACH MAGAZINE(1), RECOIL PAD, SLING SWIVELS

LOL, another M305/14S vs M1A thread!...

...I own one Standard M1A and I own several Norincos, I will be honest with you, IMO, the M1A is NOT worth the extra cash.

Do I like my M1A, yes, but I bought it before I had any Norincos and since I didn't need the extra money I spent for it, I never sold it off, although when all the SA 7.62 came around I almost sold off the M1A to help pay for 5 cases (but my brother chipped in so I didn't have to).

Anyway, maybe for someone other than I, the M1A "beats" the Norinco, but as far as I'm concerned, IF I knew then what I know now I would have bought 3 more Norincos and a case and a half more SA 7.62 INSTEAD of the M1A.

Speaking for myself, I did sold my M14s's and kept my M1A's instead. ;)

Does it have to be an SAI? Why not consider an LRB?

in all honesty pb, if you really want the springer m1a and you actually see one on the shelf...buy it.
if you order from springfield now you are likely looking at over 1 year wait time. mine has been on order since april 08 and according to springfield i may have it by this april...key word "may"

But the LRB is forged and US made, not commie made...is a cast receiver made in Canada worth more to you than a forged one made in the US?

Also isn't the LRB receiver the one with the built-in "grooves" for a scope mount? i.e. no need for a side mounted scope mount.

How long and how much did it cost you to get one sent up here?

Someone should instruct themself and read more about modern metallurgy. 19th century technologies are way behind.... please come back to the 21st.

I don't dispute that casting now reders some very high quality stuff...I have just never heard of anyone for whom it was a specific selling point.

I have also rarely met anyone who wouldn't take a forged receiver over a cast, ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL. You are probably the first person I've ever met that would rather have a SAI than an LRB.

To each his own, but it's pretty unusual.

You can get an M21 receiver from LRB or a standard...I don't own one, I have only toyed with others'. They are very, very nice. If I could stomach paying the 2500-3000 bucks to get one here, I'd have one.

That is why I find the SAI a strange option...if you are buying new the LRB is more, but not that much more. And other than 8ball you are going to be pretty hard pressed to find someone that wouldn't take an LRB over an SAI in a hot minute.

Well, at least among M14 people. I'm sure if you showed them both to my kid sister she wouldn't instantly grab one or the other! But among those who know M14s the LRB is currently the last word in rifles.

FWIW, both sides are so hotly defended that you should conclude that there are strong reasons to love each side's product.

Have owned one of each. Preferred my Socom. Would buy one of either again.

Funny thing is on my Springfield M1A synthetic (Sold it long ago or did I trade it..whatever) the stock after a few range trips looked like it was attacked with a pototoe peeler

The paint had a tendancy to just flake off for no reason. Nice.

Just as happy with my plain jane iron sighted M305. The shoot just the same without the retarded price tag :sniper:

LRB invovles locating ether alot of USGI or buying off Brownells SAI parts anyways to complete the gun. Ether way it will end up costing you more then a SAI.

Personnaly I would first consider the Springfield mainly because the receiver is Canadian made by the same company where bullet-proof Ruger's parts and frames are made.

Ruger has their own casting firm, Pine Tree Casting in the USA. As for SAI I believe they are doing it at a American firm now (probably Ruger's firm ... however Alpha Casting in Quebec doesn't make them any more).

Ether way I have seen many castings and my current manufacture M1A receiver looks like a very well made casting that was later machined to finished sizes showing a flawless surface on the receiver.

Well, that is definitely something I can't claim about the norincos!
