Springfield M1A

No, I'm not going to get a Norinco.

I can feel the storm coming... Don't you know this forum is Norinco sensitive?

I remember this guy last week: he started a thread saying to not call a M14 a M305 rinco... LOL you should have seen it... 1 hour and 8 pages of insults directed toward him, the thread was locked right away. I wonder what will happen here.

I'm not bashing the Norinco. It's a decent gun for the money. It's great that there are options for people who have a bit less money to spend on toys so more people can get shooting.

I'm a self-admited gun snob however:p and I REALLY want a Springfield.

Call Wolverine Supplies, I think the M1A Standard is around $1800 from them.

That's better than CRAFM's price of 2550$! Thanks for the heads up.

On another note. Will cutting the barrel down to 18.6in affect reliability? I know gas guns can be a bit finicky with gas system modifications

Cutting it down to your suggested length won't affect the reliability! You'll be good to go! If the M1A keeps you up at night, then you must get one! :D

I don't think reliability is an issue at all. It's been done to lots of guns and there shouldn't be a problem. Just ensure that if you are cutting up a genuine Springfield that you have a decent smith who has done it many times before, not "yeah I'm sure I could do that".
Finding a cheap new Springfield will likely be a pain in the ass though, and lots of them might not be in stock, so you will have to wait 10 years for Springfield to process your order and ship it up here. I'm not against them, it's just a warning about wait times.

I'd really like to make a non-restricted version of this for moose hunting. I may go again this year in oct.

Much nicer looking than ex-smurffette:D

How does it shoot?

I just put on that new leupold scope ... something was wrong as I had it dialed all the way down ... and still hitting 6 inches high at 100 yards ... so took if off ... removed a shim from the front of my ARMS 18 ... gotta go try it again ... so not sure how she's shooting.

p.s. had a different leupold 3-9x40 and it shot really well ... lots of caribou and 1 muskox so far ... ;)

The ex-smurffette ... do you mean my sigarms .223 ... it's OD green now ... :D
