Springfield M1A

I just put on that new leupold scope ... something was wrong as I had it dialed all the way down ... and still hitting 6 inches high at 100 yards ... so took if off ... removed a shim from the front of my ARMS 18 ... gotta go try it again ... so not sure how she's shooting.

p.s. had a different leupold 3-9x40 and it shot really well ... lots of caribou and 1 muskox so far ... ;)

The ex-smurffette ... do you mean my sigarms .223 ... it's OD green now ... :D

Yes I am. Man was that gun ugly in blue. At least it wasn't red or "heavy metal"

Hopefully I sell my car soon and I can buy one and post pictures of dead moose with it in the picture in Oct.

please keep this out of this thread.you don't have to agree with his comment but don't stir the sceptic tank. thanks

So what heh I cannot ask someone to give explanations to backup his sayings, indicating that im being sceptic about it? You norinco freaks are thin skinned thats for sure...

So far, nothing constructive came out of your answers...PLEASE care to explain why the m14 is as good as a springer (im looking for a real answer cuz I want to buy one...maybe?...).

i own a sprigfield M1A and i am very happy with it.if i had a choice and the money i would always pick the springfield one.i believe most norinco owners would pick the springfield if they could afford it.i am not rich by any means,i got mine 12 years ago and for a good price.i could not afford one today.

Come on, elaborate on what you stated earlier PLEASE...

Chicom M14s are closer to USGI M14s than Springer M1As.
USGI parts fit and function in Chicom receivers better and with less massaging than in M1A receivers.

The Chicom receiver is forged and dimensionally closer to USGI than any other.
The Springer receiver is cast and it's dimensions are not as close to USGI as they should be.

Chicom op rods are one piece and forged, they are comparable to USGI TRW.
Springer op rods are two piece reproductions.

Chicom barrels are chrome lined and equal to chrome lined USGI barrels.
Springer barrels are not chrome lined.

I have sampled Norinco and Poly Tech M14s that were imported into the
US long ago and I have compared them to new production Springer M1As.

I sold the readily available M1A that I owned and now own several Chicom M14s.

The M1A is not a bad rifle, but I have found that I get much more rifle for
much less money when I buy a Chicom rifle.

BTW, Chicom M14s go for around one grand here in the states and that's a bargain.

are springfield M1A made nowadays with repro op rods and bolts? my M1A came with a TRW bolt,TRW op rod....everything but the reciever is USGI,even the barrel.

Today's M1A is made with 100% reproduction parts.
Springer ran out of USGI parts a few years ago.

I am FAR from a Norinco freak. However, I don't want my thread to get locked. IF you wanna argue the finer points of Norinco vs Springfield, make your own thread.

Ahhh. Finally, a constructive answer! Thank you very much, I appreciate all the infos you gave me.

And maybe you can educate other CGN members who think you simply cannot own or buy a norinco in the states? Care to explain? Thank you!

They are available in the secondary market - private individuals, pawn shops and gun shops that accept trades.

Back on topic: If TheCanuck wants an M1A, the TheCanuck should get an M1A :D

I picked one up a Standard/composite a month ago here in Vancouver for $2300 plus tax. Can't find any magazines mind you and only a few boxes of ammo (150 grain).

fit and finish

I've had my Springfield M1a for over ten years, and previous to that I had an actual Winchester M14 back in the early 80s. For some reason, that Winchester kept on throwing extractors, and I could never figure out why, and got rid of it. (big big regret). My M1a's op rod did break, and Springfield replaced it. No Charge. During the 80s I did look at the Norincos, and found the fit and finish on the guns weren't all that great. You could see welds, machining marks etc. And from rifle to rifle there were inconsistent. Some dimensions were in metric, some imperial, and some arbitrary. Those inconsistency turned me off back then, But now they seem to be more consistent. I still love my Springfield, but I'm always hesitant towards Norincos. If you are going to cut up a M14 type rifle I would do it with a Norinco. Good luck!

Older M1A's

I bought an older M1A recently after confirming that about the only thing on the rifle that was not USGI was the receiver.

Paid about as much for the older used one as a new one would cost but I am happy...sure looks good in the M14 tiger stripe wood stock.

Going to get a fake lock to fill the hole on the 14 stock.

Cheers Paul
