I was looking at some posts about the Norinco M14 knock off and it bothered me that they would weld casting defects in the receiver, which introduces stress points that may cause a failure, either fatigue or catastrophic. So for $1500 more I can buy a new real one from Springfield which should hold its value.

A) is it worth it - is the quality there because it is American made, as I have seen some garbage American guns out there?

B) who here sells them? McAdam's Gun in New Brunswick has them on sale for just over $1900, Wanstalls no longer lists them on their website.

A couple things

First off, the Norc reciever is forged not cast and any welding done was to fill the F/A selector holes and those were on the recent shorty batch. It would seem that Norc is running low on recievers (We're not supposed to talk about that though, lol)

Second, The Springfield is not American made either. SA receivers are machined from castings, not forgings and their recievers are also cast in South America, Brazil.

I'll add that this "mystery welding" is NOT common amongst the chinese rifles. Seems like this phenomenon has only appeared on the new shorties sold by canam.
