Hello fellow cgner's I know I started thread before asking the expected accuracy out of a norinco m305 but now I'm curious about what a Springfield armory m305 can do? Are they better hence the extra 1500 bucks or am I paying for the name. I tried searches and didn't see anything and yes I tried Google but dont trust it as much since Google results told me my Mossberg nightrain was a good entry level accuracy rifle. I'm just looking for your guys experience with them. Thanks!

Springfield actually doesn't make an M-305, but they do make an M1A.

From what I understand, the Norc receivers are forged, which is supposed to be stronger, and the Springfields are cast, or not as strong. I believe fit and finish is much better on the M1A, but they are supposed to have some QC issues of there own.

Hopefully the more well versed experts, like 45ACPKING and Hungry (now known as Tactical Teacher), will show up and give you more information than you know what to do with!

If you are asking specifically about accuracy, there will be more variation from rifle to rifle than from make to make.

Coming out of a M-305 ( over 2000 rounds not much problems) and now shooting a Springfield NM M1A, accuracy seem to be better, finition is better, sights are a ton better, mag is easy to fit and take out, some parts are stronger (oprod spring guide), unitized gaz system act like a shock absorber, very smooth, i guess you get what you pay for, the stock is of high quality wood and AN INCREDIBLE 2 STAGES TRIGGER OF GREAT QUALITY BREAKING CLEAN @ 3.8 POUNDS ( big difference for accuracy)... JP.

I don't own a springfield .... Not knocking them, just haven't felt the need.
Spend money on a M1A loaded or supermatch.... Or spend same or less upgrading a norinco.
They just might shoot the same.

If yer comparing rack grade springfield, with a norinco that is gone over to bring it to comparable mechanical condition as a out of box springer.... I doubt you would see any real difference on the targets

Quite true... JP.

If I had Springfield money, I'd get a really good start on build starting with an LRB receiver, take a bit longer, but I'd have a better rifle in the end.

On my only outing, i can frankly say that i have become the variable in the accuracy equation, my 305 was giving me 3 to 5 inch group with quality ammo...
My Springfield NM M1A with chinese ammo @ 30 cents a round gave me over 220 rounds, some groups from 2 to 3 inch and a couple were sub 2 MOA, open sights, so here the rifle is capable, the variable is the shooter...
God do i like a rifle that shoot tight...
We could have a sub MOA rifle here with a good rolled one and a scope, but those sights are so good and easy to shoot, i may never scope that rifle... JP.

This is what my Norc gets for accuracy on a consistent basis with quality factory ammo.

Besides it sitting in a aftermarket stock, all that has been done to it is a NM spring guide and a barrel chop to 18.75".

I have no issue upgrading a norinqo but I keep hearing stories of guys spending money on them and still have a 5 inch groups. I'd really like to be in the 3 inch and less area.

Youre saying a springfield would have qc problems that the m305 doesnt??????????

They both have problems. The difference is 1 is way more money then the other. The quality of the M1A is much nicer then the M305 just take it apart and look at the fit and finish they thing is they both go bang and work so is 1 better then the other depends on what you want. Cheap and works or expensive and is allot smoother and slicker.

I found changing the ammo made the biggest diffence on accuracy then anything else. I changed the gas rod on the M305 now it cycles allot smoother big difference for 1 part changed everything else is orginal. Not worth the money to make it better when I can just buy a rifle with better accuracy out of the box by getting a differen't design of rifle that is made for accuracy. It's good enough for what it is so I can't complain it hits what I aim it at.

I find just switching the rifle changes my accuracy more then anything the rifle has to fit the shooter the sights ect. Then how you shoot makes a difference bench none bench taking time or just blasting away. Lots of factors when it comes to firearms but that's the fun part.

I looked at it this way for the price of 1 springfeild M1A I could buy 4 Norinco M305. It depends on what you want I rather put the money on the ammo and shoot more.

Since i got a 305 in 2005, i discovered how much fun a M-14 is to shoot, it's a direct consequence of me buying a NM M1A... JP.

I'd really like to be in the 3 inch and less area.

I guess this is a good thing as long as you're talking about group size....
I still haven't shot my m305 "shorty" and not expecting anything more than a whole lot of fun! I'll shoot a bolt gun if I'm looking for accuracy.
