Hey Guys,

Newbie here, just sent in my RPAL & PAL application last week and have been spending alot of time thinking about what my first purchase should be. I want a 1911, been researching quite a bit, and have narrowed it down to 2 choices, taking into account quality, price, asthetics and features. I prefer to spend $1000 but am willing to go up to $1500 if it is justifiable.

My two choices are the SA Loaded two-tone stainless and Kimber Eclipse Custom II.

Any opinions and/or experience from you guys will be appreciated as well as where I can purchase and price I should expect to pay for each.

For a 1911, I do go with STI becasue of good after sale support in Canada, Springfrield don't sell us the XDM and Kimber don't even know how to make a plastic gun, they drop the KPD polymar .40 after one year of advertisement while a lot of gunnutz waiting to buy one in the state. I am sure many other 1911 fans will give you more insight about STI

Kimber

I have a Kimber target II in stainless, very good 1911 pistol, very accurate and Kimbers are made very well.

Agreed. But stay away from the phillipies made Spartan. Buck up the extra $350 and get the Trojan.
 
My Kimber never worked properly out of the box, and you'll find many similar complaints from other owners who got duped into thinking these were high quality 1911s based on their price or history.
 
Both are very nice guns, I had a TLE II and a Loaded model and I liked both very much, but no 1911 up to the $1500 range can beat the STI Trojan. Give Sean a Freedom Ventures a call, he will set you, great guy to deal with. When I order my next Trojan the only difference will be I will order it with fixed sights, not a fan of the Bomar style adjustable, but that is a personal preference and it will work anyway you get it and should you have any problems, Sean will take care of you, his customer service is second to none.

Whichever coast you buy it on, you won't regret buying STI.
 
I have owned several Springfields and three Kimbers.The Kimbers I owned all shot great and I never had any major issues with any of them.The only thing I don't like about Kimber is the injection process used for making there small parts.But thats just me.
Springfields on the other hand.In my opinion every bit as accurate as any Kimber I have ownwed.Fit and finish not as pretty perhaps as Kimber but who cares.
Over the past several years I have owned over 20 different 1911 pistols(Colt,Kimber,SIG GSR,Springfield,Wilson Combat,LesBaer) and there is potential for all of them to have there kwirks,wich for the most part was corrected by tapering & polishing the extractor.
I Don't think that youll go wrong with either choice(Kimber,Springfield).

Thanks guys for all your input. I may just have to add STI in the mix! The only thing is that I really wanted a "two tone" design, its really attractive to me. I checked out the STI website and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see anything that comes in that configuration. By the way, what is double stack? Forgive my ignorance, but I did say I'm a noob right?

Double stack is so call dual column, it allows a mag load more rounds than single column and therefore the mags are bigger, the grip is bigger than a gun operate with a single stack.

STI has many different pistols available in a two-tone finish, including the Trojan, Lawman, USPSA, V.I.P., Eagle, Edge, Legend, and the IPSC.

"Double-stack" refers to a double-column magazine. With a "double-stack" magazine, rather than each cartridge being directly inline in the magazine (as is the case with a "single-stack" magazine), each cartridge is staggered in the magazine to permit a greater total magazine capacity, in a magazine of a given length. The double-stack grip may be wider than a single-stack grip.
