Has anyone had any experience using the "Springfield Research Service" to trace the history of a U.S. martial firearm. I see the name (SRS) mentioned in reference books along with Colt Archives (I have used colt letters before) as a source for historical records but the SRS web site seems very dated and I am not sure if it even still exists.
Also it appears that you have to subscribe to a magazine to be allowed to use the service and then pay a fee (?) to actually submit a serial number for a search? Any comment on how this works.
And again there appears to be a book available on sites such as ebay from Springfield Res Ser, is the book useful, fairly expensive at $200 US + if it does not do much good.
