Springfield/Savage/Stevens 67

How in the world do you remove the mag tube from the fore end? I have everything else stripped down but can't for the life of me figure out how to get the mag tube out of the fore end. I know it screws in but how do you get it apart? I was trying to get all the metal removed so I didn't have to mask it when I redo the finish on the fore end. Maybe it's not worth it and I should just go ahead and mask it?

Here is the link to the parts diagram that Looky provided: http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufacturers/SavageStevensSpringfieldFox-33479/Shotguns-40503/67Series-41371/67SeriesE-34181.htm?results=50&page=2

Well, I managed to get the stock repaired. I took the old finish off, cut out some of the wood with a knife so it would lie flat and glue and clamped it for 24hrs with Titebond II as Mateo suggested using. I actually removed a little too much wood but live and learn. Going to refinish the stock this week. Keep going back and forth between tung oil and tru-oil.

Here is what it looks like now:

Go have a wander over to Boyd's stocks place and watch Randy's video on how to put Tru-Oil on his stocks.
He sure makes it look easy.
Sand the oil into the wood to help smooth it out.
With that repaired crack, I would think one would want a pretty tight finish on it to keep out the elements.
You can always take the sheen off the finish with some 0000 steel wool.

Well here is the end results of this project. Finished it with six coats of tung oil over two coats of Mini Wax stain. Turned out alright, for a cheap project it didn't turn out too bad, I certainly learned a lot from it!
