Hello I currently have a Springfield armory socom16 and I had a thought in my mind to try and extend the muzzle device somehow to make it non-restricted and was wondering if this would be possible?

The total length of the barrel with its factory removable muzzle brake is 17 1/2 so it would need another inch. I’m wondering if I find a muzzle device somewhere or possible get a custom one made and have it permantly fixed if this would work to have to re-classified?

Any thoughts or anyone with experience dealing with something like this please offer me some advice

Thanks!!

Super easy to get it re-barreled and certified by a gunsmith. You can get a standard barrel cut and crowned at 18.5 if you want it shorter while they're at it or but an aftermarket 18.5

At one time it was legal to do that. M1 carbines had flash hidders welded on , and it was good, I did a few.
Later the law changed and they measure the bore, weld on stuff don't cut the mustard any more. Too bad , if it still worked , there would be a lot of 4 in smiths and colts with comps welded on the barrel. I forget the time frame.
All stupid B.S., I seem to think Kim Campbell could have been in on that one ?????????????
The barrel needs to be above 18.6

Only in the US that a muzzle brake or flash hider permanently attached can play in the legal aspect of barrel lenght.....not here in Canada
