Springfield Trap door...Pics Up!!

Hey.
A trapdoor carbine..huh?
The first 3 digits of the serial number if it is a 6 digit gun will tell the date of manufacture, the first 2 on a 5 digit gun. Pic will help to identify.There never was an 1885 breechblock marking...only 1873, or 1884. Been collecting these things for nearly 30 years.

No ammo yet...

I have been advised to use only the 'cowboy' Winchester lead ammo. NOT modern jacketed hunting stuff (sounds like good advice)

Found some ammo...PMC lead 405gr ( :shock: )

Not a bad group for an old antique...but the target was 3' down and a foot left of this group. The gun needs a much higher front site.
