I own a Springfield 1911 A1, Para Ordnance P12-45, Tangfolio .25 and a Davis .32cal. i was looking for something larger than .25 or .32 but something smaller than my 2 .45's and it had to be polymer. The catch was i DIDN'T want a GLOCK! so i settled on The springfield xd-40. any thoughts or opinions about it. i know its far from a USP, but it is very well built and the grip feels great.

Dont break it.. or you will be waiting a LONG time to get it back from Croatia for repairs..

Ive heard of guys waiting 9 months...

Great gun. I regret getting rid of mine but I ended up hating .40SW so much that I sold it off.

I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if I was in the market, but 9mm this time.

It's funny that you don't want a glock, but went with an xd-40,

The grip safety would drive me nuts btw

Had one great gun but i did get rid of it because of the no replacement available did not want to wait a long time to get it back if something were to happen to it

"opinions please"

OK.

They are ugly

Posted in jest but for myself they are just far too ugly and odd looking for me to ever buy one when there's so many other options for guns that shoot just as well and appeal to my sense of proportion and mechanical style.

I've got one.

I like it, the only problem that I can think of is that the original finish sucked - so I arma-coated it.

I'm surprised you're not thinking of a 9mm XD instead. 9mm is such a popular round and it's a lot less expensive.

I personally like the XD a lot. It feels very sturdy, but as mentioned above, any repairs have to be effected in Croatia as the company that builds them (and then gives them to Springfield to export) doesn't sell after marker parts. It apparently takes a really long time to get any repairs done IF anything breaks (which may never happen).

Love my XD-40,as well.Very comfortable to shoot ,and amazingily accurate .The only gun that i can double tap 2 rounds at 25 yrds and the holes touch each other!!!!I know this sounds hard to believe!!!I am NOT a polymer type of guy but i sometimes swear this pistol was built for my hands.I am a dyed in the wool 1911 fan and i bought this pistol with some reservations but decided too give it a go,my wife really likes it as well, which is o.k. with me as i can go shoot my 1911,(Almost as accurate).700 rounds and counting not one mechanical failure or jam, feeds, extracts, and ejects with authourity slabbed some Heinie straight-8 sites, lots of more happy shootin to go:50cal::50cal:

I have one in 9mm and love it .
I am not sure about the Croatia repair center , I sent a magazine that I bought cheap at a pawn shop and Springfield replaced it no questions ask . I also beleive Springfield honors a lifetime warranty on these . I have not needed the warranty so far. I like the grip safety and feel that it offers alot and prvents some accidental discharges that are common with Glocks . Mine is not as accurate as my sig 226, but it cost only $386US and the Sig was over $700US,so maybee that is not a fair comparison .
A very good firearm for the price in my opinion .

XD-40, Oh ya, Nice.

I shoot my Brother's and it is awesome. He uses it for IDPA I think. Easy load mags, smooth, consistantly predictable trigger action and reliable to the point of being boring. One gun it would not bother me to have. I recommend it. I have shot 300+ rounds. He has a springfield XD9 stainless as well and is also nearly flawless, mags are difficult to load. Shot 1000's out of that one and would recommend it as well. Made in Eastern Europe I believe but whatever, Springfield seems to have quality stuff.

i have an xd .45 i know its not a .40 or 9mm but i like it all the same it is a lil heavier than the glock but the grip more than makes up for it it is very comfortable

They are really nice guns, I had a similar dillema, and went for a Used USP tactical .40 for $850.00. Long term reliability remains to be seen.

I've shot buckets and buckets through mine, just had to replace the locking block and barrell through warranty support. 3 months it was gone, no charge. I'm not aware of another shooter that has beaten the crap out of their xd as much as me.
My original finish is fine, mine was an early model.

If I was to repurchase i'd get a Sig 226 in 40s&w refurb unit from Wolverine or another xd-40. I've never liked the glock, so i'm biased. I liked the 40 so I had the option to go 357sig(yuk) or 9mm(cheapo).

I had one, and liked it a great deal. I found it far more 'shootable' than any Glock I've tried.

The takedown lever was in an awkward position for my shooting grip though.
