Hi all,

I was wondering if you guys could give me the scoop on the XD40. I'm looking for a .40S&W and have one of these in mind. How do they shape up with Glock and others....thanks

I recently went through this same question a few months back. In the end, I bought the XD40 for 2 main reasons. 1. The grip (for me) was WAY better than the Glock, plus I really like the grip safety. And 2, I could shoot lead re-loads through the XD which I did not feel comfortable doing with the Glock.
(again personal choice) Having handled and shot both, I did not find there to be any real difference in reliability or shootability. I did find however, that for me the XD was a tad more accurate.

Oh yeah, and the XD has a supported chamber:runaway:

I chose the XD40 as my first handgun and am now really reluctant to buy a 2nd semi-auto handgun, except for a .22 buckmark camper. I also have my one 6 gun, a .357 S&W 586.

I'm on a bit of a budget but more that I wanted top quality for value. This ruled out new Sigs and I gave CZ a long hard look. I had looked at used Sigma's, High Powers, refurb Sigs, Norc and other .45's but decided to go with the XD40 and couldn't be happier. Given the new price of an XD I could've probably squeaked both a used Sigma and a new Norc .45 but I wouldn't have chosen different. Price, design, quality, stainless mags- I could go on and on. I got the OD green too which I really like. Right after I bought it they started selling them with the new full-meal-deal kits which makes them an even better value.

Glocks feel too cheap for me. Take the mag out of one and pinch the grip - they're so thin that they flex - which is way to thin for me.

If you're ever out at the range in PoCo say hi and I'll let you try my XD40 to see for yourself.

i have the xd 40 5inch tactical .
i think its a fantastic hand gun for what it is (tactical)
its well balanced ,comfy grip, simple design, accurate enough so that with a little r&d i can put the bullets where i want, and pretty rugged
i've not had any problems at all ,and i've shot as fast as i can and empty 4 10 shot mags so it can get pretty hot and still no problems im not in the habbit of shooting like a wild man ,but its nice to know that its still reliable
and i think if i take care of it, it will stand up to the test of time.
im very pleased to have bought it

my first hand gun was the glock 17, 9mm ,and i still have it , and its a real blast to shoot
i'll won't ever get rid of either of them they are both compleatly different feeling guns and they shood be .
both function flawlesly.
the glock is lighter witch is nice .
the xd has a longer barrel witch is nice to
i got to say my preferd gun to shoot right now is the xd but i dont know if its cause its the newest in the colection so far, or because i like the extra power of the 40 s&w over the 9mm .
probably both
but both are manageable and easy to shoot, and i dont think either one has an adventage over the other tactically, although i rilly like the 5 inch barrel on the xd ,it seams to help pointabillity with the longer sight radius

P&D sells them for the same price as before, $750 including the holster and mag pouch kit. I bought one from them for my wife two weeks ago.
