I already own the xdm just tired of trying to get magazines so thinking of trading it for an m&p 9mm am I gonna regret it? Who's shot both? Are m&p's reliable? Also trigger, that's what I loved about the xdm!

I have shot both. I find the grip abetter on the M&P, but the trigger is grittier on it. There are ways to smooth it out on the cheap.

S&W magazines may be just as difficult to get. Some sponsors got stock of them is as of late but no idea how long they will last. I bought my mags a few weeks ago but before that I had to be lucky , fast or both to get any.

M+P hasn't had a single malfunction since I bought it. I find it the most comfortable of the poly pistols I've shot, haven't tried the xdm though.

My M&P is fantastic. It sometimes has issues feeding with flat nosed bullets. Had a couple of hangups out of 200 rounds yesterday with the Winchester Winclean .40's, looked like the front of the round was catching on the feed ramp a tad, slide just couldn't keep moving forward. No issues with the previous 1500 round nose FMJ's though.

Had the chance to shoot someones XDM while I was there as well. It does have a slightly nicer trigger than my M&P, but my M&P's trigger seems to get better each time I take it out.

I've owned both, I had 3 M&P's and owned XDm 9mm briefly.

To be honest I didn't like the XDm grip didn't fit me well and I find it awkward looking; thin grips and fat slide profile... I liked M&P better, but after Glock came out with gen4 I sold my M&P, have you considered the Glock??

I prefer the M&P over the XDM. Grip is more comfortable and natural for me. I can shoot both about the same accuracy wise, but much more comfortable with the Smith & Wesson. The odd hard-primer (ammo problem), but besides that no malfunctions in about 8000 rounds through the M&P. I generally shoot 147gr or 115gr. Both are ok, but I find it likes 115gr more for whatever reason. Havent put enough 124gr through it to give a good opinion. M&P mags can be hard to come by, but once you get them (and sand the follower so that it loads 10 on a closed slide), the mags should last for a very long time. Just clean and maintain them. So far I have no signs of wear, and each mag has seen well over 1500 rounds each.

Thanks for every ones input, picked up the m&p range kit today at least I have 3 mags now to start...I already owned the .22 version so just makes sense to get the matching 9mm

Not trying to highjack the thread but..... Presley how do you like the m&p 22, how long have you had it, and how many rounds have you put
through it??

I've only had it a year or so, put 500 rounds through it,Just use bulk ammo & never any issues at all! I wouldn't hesitate feels great in the hand, reliable & cheap to shoot! Only thing I don't like it the sights

The sights do suck...

My wife has one -- around 7,500 rds thru it -- it does seem to like some ammo over others.

Around here (Northern Virginia) M&P parts are probably the easiest of all guns but 1911's to get parts for.

I'm a big M&P guy, but regardless I think between it and the XDM, the M&P is a no brainer.

based on looks alone, the M&P wins hands down (unless you get the PRO, which I think is fugly).

it's also a much friendlier price point (unless you buy the CORE) that lets you get enough mags to have fun with it.

Feels great in the hand but the trigger is real rough! I sure hope it smooths out a bit...any 1 install one of those apex trigger kits in there's?
