Does anyone know where I can get one of these GI replicas in canada? I dont want the milspec with the flared and lowered ejection port/larger sights etc... I am looking for the one with US stamped in the grips.
Thanks
Simon

good for nostalgia, but issue 1911 sights suck ass. If you plan on doing alot of shooting, better off with the milspec

You can find them in Edmonton at Wild West, Milarm, and P&D.

As for how they perform. I've seen a few models digest thousands upon thousands of rds, just like any good 1911 should. However, like any plain GI model, they work the best with ball ammo. If you plan on using different ammo like HP or flat nose stuff, it may not be your best choice (unless you want a little work done on it). If you want it for nostalgic reasons, it great. But if you want a 1911 shooter, shell out a few bucks more and get a Loaded Model. And you get all the bells and whistles. My 2 cents.

I have other 1911's with all the bells and whistles to shoot. Ive just always had a hankerin for a bare bones military 1911A1, but never wanted to fork out the bucks for a beat up old colt. From what you guys have told me the springfield sounds like what I am looking for.

Thanks!
Simon

One thing about the Springfields that I noticed when I was researching 1911s was that the Mil-Spec is not mil-spec...
It has a key locking mechanism in the mainspring assembly and several of the parts in this area are not "mil spec" .
If it matters to you......
