Spruce Grove Gun Club Black gun test drive?

True, it's not a safety course, it is more of an orientation that covers their safety rules. It's still too much of a hassle to do the orientation and then send in your application and wait for approval.

Sherwood park on the other hand is nice because you just buy a membership anywhere, but then thy have the lame ass "no guest" shooting.

The orientation is only an hour at Spruce Grove and is really just a walk around the range and general safety.

As for rapid fire I have never in three years had anyone question me doing multiple 10 round mag dumps with my ar. Like any range if you cant keep it on target people are going to be upset.

The best thing about Spruce is there is a strong black rifle communinty. There is a good group involved in service rifle and 3 gun matches. Do not let the requirement to do a orientation keep you away.

Sherwood Park is asthetically nicer but the no guest rule kills it for me and its in the middle of butt #### nowhere.

OK. I'll be there at 10:00AM. Unregistered and flipincanadian are pretty keen to give it a go. I don't think either are members, so that's my 2 allowed guests. If there are other members that are planning to come and want to participate, please post up.

If there are more than these 2 guys that want to come, post up and we'll try to get another member to sponsor you for the day.

Day passes are $10. Bring some .223 and targets if you have some. I have plenty of ammo and will pick up some more targets on the way out.

Hmm more black rifle shooters eh? Maybe I'll take the orientation, and wait the 3 months to get my membership approved

It doesn't take THAT long. LOL

I used to go to Sherwood Park, but my buddy that I shoot with most often (and reload with) goes there, so it made sense. I thought SP was nicer, but it was very busy. Also, the no guests thing was terribly annoying.

If I wasn't out of town, I would have joined and I could have brought my NEA-15 as well. Next time I'll come, I'd like to check out Spruce Grove. I've been shooting at Sherwood Park, as I live south east and it's only 25 minutes for me. Still very new to the shooting scene, I'd like to meet new people.

Dave, flipincanadian, it was great meeting you guys! Sorry I had to leave early and had no long guns of my own to contribute!

That will change soon. Your NEA has made me sure about the one I have coming in!

Cheers! Always great to shoot, but even better with new friends from here!

Great to meet you guys too. Don't sweat it about the rifles. I'll hit you up for for some pistol tops next time if you can stay longer. We ended up just shooting rifles today. We ran another hundred and fifty rounds through the NEA, and didn't have one hitch. I'm really happy with the way it's running now!!! :D

I've joined SGGC!

I asked that very question when I joined and the answer was that as long as your shots were reasonably on target, it's all good.

Now I can't wait for someone to tell me I can't do it so I can politely tell them where to shove it :)

I have been following this thread and I am the chair of the Service Rifle League at the Spruce Grove Gun Club. Never heard a rule such as the no rapid fire rule and one round in the gun at a time is only for the one shot gun range as it is set up by international rules for the sport.

Here is our service rifle schedule for the rest of the year, we have done two matches so far with 24 shooters in march and 22 shooters in April. Match fee's are $5.00 and if you are not a member we hit you for another $ 10.00 for a day pass.

My apologies for spreading false information re: rapid fire. I was a member there (2009) but I guess my recall was bad. Thanks for clearing it up, Scott.
