anyone of you shooters have a SPS Varmint in 243?

I am thinking of grabing one:redface: BPS have them on sale for $514:dancingbanana:

they have a 1/9 1/8" twist and with a 95gr VLD at or around 3100FPS might just be a good long range round around 30 or 32 MOA to 1000meters:cool:

I have one, It shoots great.

I've been working with, win. 80gr PSP and hornady 87gr BTHP. I've also got a bunch of 105 amax's loaded and ready to go.

so far so good.

the brger site said a faster twist is needed for the 105......but it would be worth a try

Consider the 105gr Berger/Amax, 107gr MK, 90ish gr Scenar as well. That is a nice twist for any distance. Should have no issue reaching out to a mile.

Nice price.

So, you're saying a .243 Win is good for 1,760 yards? Are you serious?

Absolutely!!!!

Just need to stabilize the right bullets and distance is of little concern (enough scope elevation IS). Shooters are going to a mile ACCURATELY with the 6BR so why not with a case 50% bigger and 20% faster???

I will be trying to push a 223 out to a mile this spring and that is an absolute PIG compared to the 243.

Jerry

PS Jamie, manf twist rates are not always perfect so you got to push some lead downrange to see what will or will not work. If Rem is quoting a 9 twist, it will be close. An 8 twist is ideal.

Mine's a different caliber, .204. Comparing to my 3 Savages, the fit n finish is better. Still working load development but so far maybe not quite as accurate. I have no issues with and in fact rather like the stock, can't understand why it's derided generally. Tho I did bed the action and float the barrel, but I'll do that with any gun so not singling out the Rem.

The big unknown is when the bullet hits the 'wall' - loose gyroscopic stability and tumble. Really cool to see.

I have seen the 75gr Amax go beyond 1400yds accurately so it is well and truly subsonic. The issue now is stability.

I will be pushing through a 7 twist barrel so should have plenty of spin. Will test 80gr Amax/Berger, 75gr Amax.

If they don't tumble, I just need to keep pointing skyward....no big deal.

The big deal is setting up a scope with 60 to 70mins of up to make the trip from 1000m. Then it is seeing the impacts to adjust.

Good thing this spring there will lots of eyes to help me spot.

Hey Mike, check on the Remington website. They definitely have .243 - I might have to get one just to put the new Falcon scope on!

Eric

I know Remington makes them in .243, but the Bass Pro flyer only lists them being available, at their store, in .204, 22-250 and 223. 243 would definately be nice though. I might be tempted to pick up a .223 since I don't have a 700 in that calibre yet.

I could do that or just look for a 700 beater.......in 308 260 or 243 and re barrel......hmmmmm
