I am thinking about buying a Remington in .308 to compliment my LTR in .223.

What is the diffeence between the SPS and the 700P? The 700p seems to be about $400 more is it worth the extra? What are you getting for the money?

If I decide to go the AICS route will the SPS fit?

Thanks!

Heavier barrel and better stock is my understanding of the differences.

I had a 700 SPS DM in .300 Win Mag and I liked it very much.

Are you talking a regular SPS or the SPS Varmint model? From what I understand the only difference between the SPS Varmint and the 700P is the stock... but I could be wrong. The 700P has an HS precision and the SPS varmint has a remington plastic stock.

55recce, if your going with an AICS then you would be better off buying the SPS instead of spending the extra 400 on the 700p and selling off the HS precision stock at a loss.

Had an SPS in .308 win, I think judging by the way it shot and worked the S.P.S. stands for stupid piece of s$!t. The 700P my buddy bought was twice the gun. Trigger worked very well, barrell didn't heat up after 3 shots, nice weight to it and after one box of factory loads we put hand loads through it and the first 5 rds at 100 yds all touched in the center.

The stock in the P is worth at least 200-300 more and the barrel as well, You are getting a better value with the P IMO with the stock and barrel.

I'll echo iconfig, if going to the AICS the SPS will save you $$

also, just realized, the SPS has a 20" barrel and the P a 26" barrel, big difference. I'd compare the SPS more with the LTR than the P.

With that fact then do you want the AICS with a 20" barrel? I'd prefer it with a 26" barrel.

Look into the SPS Varmint instead of the Tactical, then you are getting the 26" Heavy bbl and the same 700 action at the SPS price. Much more comparable to the P
