Well, my spuhr mount finally came. Its called the Spuhr Ideal Scope Mount System, designed and made in sweden. The quality of the mount is just amazing, not a single tool mark. The scope mount is PRISTINE, I seriously cannot find a single flaw with its fit or finish.

*blurry photos* crappy cellphone pics, better than nothing I guess?

It was fairly easy to install. One AWESOME feature is the levelling wedge (see below) that comes with the mount. It has a 10 degree slot cut into the mount, which you insert the wedge until your scope is lined up with the wedge. Their idea behind this is, if you are buying this mount, your going to have high end optics which have level/flat bottoms. It had to be the easiest scope install ever (i've installed two including this one). no need for bubble levels or anything like that !

I'll be headed to the range tomorrow, will hopefully have some better detailed pics and a field review.

The ISMS is the good stuff.

I've used a good variety of the high end mounts, and the SPUHR is the best overall mount out there.

Brilliant design and very high quality manufacturing. You'll love it.

Does anyone else have this mount? If so did you use rosin? I ran across some old threads on Snipers Hide where their PMII 5-25 slipped in the rings, and now the scope has scrapes due to lack of rosin. I obviously do not want that to happen to me... I'd be crushed if it were to happen to me.. Right now I have the rings torqued to 20 in/lbs (started at 10, then 15 then 17 then 20.

What kind of rosin can I use? would the stuff from crappy tire work? (rosin rock)

I use Spuhr rings, not the one piece mount. I used Rosin the first time, I purchased the gunsmithing type from Brownells, if you "really" need some I could send ya some? The can you get from Brownells, you could mount 1000 scopes, LOL. The second time I didn't because I think it was mostly recommended for "heavy" recoiling rifles? I know you won't find that anywhere in writing, and the instructions say to use it, that's just my take, at 20in/lbs, both my "smith" and myself weren't worried about the scope moving.

BTW, don't take this as "verbatim" it's just an "observation" but as an "HK guy" I"m guessing that scope is in RAL 8000? if so and it's the "H" version of Cerakote?(baked or cured finish) I doubt that it would "scratch". I don't know off hand anyone who makes the RAL 8000 other than Cerakote, and it's a tough coating. I believe those "tubes" are coated prior to assembly? Don't know if that makes you feel any better?

I just installed a Bushnell XRS in Spuhr rings a couple of days ago. The Spuhrs are expensive but I agree the finish and machining are top notch.

I was wondering about the rosin as well. There seems like a large surface area for clamping and is it really necessary for a mild recoiling rifle?

Hm, well my plan is to go to the range after I take my dog for a walk. Now it includes getting some Rosin before heading out, I'll try shooting of if it moves a fraction of a inch I'll remove, de grease (with isopropyl alcohol) and re install with Rosin (I'm bringing my tool kit with me). I would think a peice of masking tape on either side of the ringS, would be sufficient to detect movement right?

Or the fact that your zero goes all to hell.....

I've not heard of this issue before...nor had it, but I'm pretty new and only have lots of rounds in a 6.5. I wonder if some of the guru's could pipe in???

Jerry?? Brian??

Do you just put a dab on the rings before you lock them down??

I just read the old thread on the Hide about this and Spuhr himself recommends the rosin to protect scope finish as well. Seems like everyone except the OP + 1 had no issues with slippage, even without rosin. Also, the OP was reluctant to measure scope and mount so it was unclear if either was out of spec.

That being said, Bsand please let us know what happens. I'm planning to go out Monday and I'll put some witness marks on as well.

Missed this post earlier...

It is a RAL8000 coating, but I'm just nervous about ruining the finish on something I just paid 4k (still paying!!) for. I already screwed up last night and put a sharpie mark on parallax adjustment. Luckily some 91% isopropyl alcohol made quick work of it. The coating def looks very thick/high quality, I just do not want to ruin it my first time out. I already had one scope get ring marks (finish marrs, NOT dents) and not realize until I went to sell it.. Luckily the guy buying didn't mind but boy was I ever sweating once I removed the rings (burris zee signature rings, 1" non lapped on a Zeiss conquest hd5).

Or the fact that your zero goes all to hell.....

From what i've heard people dip a q tip into the bag, apply to the groves on both sides, re assemble, level and torque as normal. I think ill probably have to run over the rock rosin to make it powdered enough.

Anyone know if paste rosin for violins would that work better than me crushing rock rosin?

I have 4 of the mounts, used for the following:
338LM Remington 700
338LM DT SRS
50bmg Steyr HS50
50bmg Serbu BFG50A

Never used rosin, never has any slipping issues with any of them through many thousands of rounds.

The one on my Remington developed a hairline crack in the upper clamp at about the 1500 round mark, and when I contacted Spur about it, they were quite surprised and said they have never seen an issue like that, so they asked for photos and torque specs. (20 inch lbs as per spec). Once they confirmed that it had indeed broken they shipped me a new upper clamp ring free of charge, have not had a problem since.

My bet is you'll be fine without it too.

I also bet that the rock rosin is just dehydrated paste. Just crush it and add water and heat it up for a bit.

What scopes did you mount on them? I'm rather paranoid (as you can tell!) about damaging the finish. The people on SH's may have had an out of spec one... But at 516$ shipped w/ taxes you'd think it would be 100% bulletproof (you know what I mean).
