Spuhr Ideal Scope Mount System Unboxing/review

Well, before going to the range I had called Mile High Shooting Supplies in the US (they are Spuhr US distributor). The guy told me that they DO NOT use rosin, and set their top rings to 18-21 in/lbs and 50 for the side ones..

I have my rings at 20 in/lb and the base at 60 in/lb (spuhr said max 65), no issues so far with the scope moving..

What scopes did you mount on them? I'm rather paranoid (as you can tell!) about damaging the finish. The people on SH's may have had an out of spec one... But at 516$ shipped w/ taxes you'd think it would be 100% bulletproof (you know what I mean).

I have had a few various scopes mounted on them. Currently all 4 are wearing NF NXS 5.5-22x56mm MOAR/ Zero stop. In the past they have worn everything from Sightrons and Vortex, to S&B's and Premier Heritage.

Never had an issue with any sliding until the crack.

Here's a few pics of them as they are currently equipped.

Great mount.

As can be rightly imagined, a mount like this can stand up to some good recoil...

A picture of the one and only time I have known this product to fail. They were very quick on the customer service after I contacted them. They replaced the broken part quickly and free of charge.

Kevin M., nice collection! Informative post too, thanks.

So I bolted the rings down to 25 in-lbs, put 24 rounds of 6 Creed through for sight in and practice. Didn't use rosin, no movement detected.

Found this as well on Spuhr's website. These are the actual detailed installation instructions. I didn't have this info included with my Spuhr rings.

I have 4 of the mounts, used for the following:
338LM Remington 700
338LM DT SRS
50bmg Steyr HS50
50bmg Serbu BFG50A

Never used rosin, never has any slipping issues with any of them through many thousands of rounds.

The one on my Remington developed a hairline crack in the upper clamp at about the 1500 round mark, and when I contacted Spur about it, they were quite surprised and said they have never seen an issue like that, so they asked for photos and torque specs. (20 inch lbs as per spec). Once they confirmed that it had indeed broken they shipped me a new upper clamp ring free of charge, have not had a problem since.
Lots of good info in this thread here, thanks everyone. I wasn't sure if it was going to be a pain in the @$$ to mount, and I didn't buy any rosin, just threw my Steiner in there, crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. The instructions said to tighten the ring screws down to 15-25in/lbs, so I went for the max.

Kevin, did you need to go that far with your 50s?

Here's my unboxing, also with a cell, but less blur, lol!

God's Balls, that is one robust mount and cost more than several of my first scopes, lol!

Not really sure when the rifle arrives, so it'll be a while before I take it for a test drive, but I'm pretty impressed so far.

Nice, I have a couple sets of there rings, the light weight is a real bonus, along with the impeccable quality & finish. The leveling tool can be "hit & miss" since it's not scope friendly with ones that have large knobs? Overall it's an "investment" and a dam good one at that!! Congrats. & remember "buy once cry once" Cheers

I used Rosin the first time & didn't the next time, I torqued mine to 20in/lbs, so at 25 you are G2G.

Yep, you're right about the leveling tool. It'll get it close, but yea, you can see a slightly uneven gap in one of the pictures where the tool contacts the knob. I had to take that into account before cranking it down.

Can you take the cap off turret so you have clearance for the wedge leveling?

I didn't do it because I'm actually retarded? Feel like an idiot, thanks, haha! I'll go and do that after work....though, it's the parallax/illumination turret, so I'll have to see if it can even be removed.

Yeah, I didn't have the patience to bother taking proper pics. I was more interested in mounting to rifle and getting the eye relief set right. I made the mistake of not removing the tool before tightening the scope down, now the scope bottom has a scuff. Can't see it unless rifle is upside down, so not big deal.

I've ran through 400 rounds and not a single movement at 22 in-lb and 65 in-lb. A month later I'm really happy with my purchase, just not so much as this will be standard on all future rifles.

Haha, I have the time.....at home anyway. Having a 10 month old stomping around the house doesn't afford me a lot of time at the range these days.

Good to know that the mount can hold up to the abuse. I've been pretty happy with the American Defence AD-Recon line of mounts and they've done well on my .308s, but this one's going on something a bit bigger and I wanted to make sure I didn't have any issues.

Anyway, great thread all around, good for noobs like me to learn a lot about these mounts before jumping in.

closest thing to a kid I have is a dog, he will lick all items that I give attention to over him. He licked the objective lense of my S&B after I shooed him away when he was just sniffing it. Damn dog acts like a 2 yearold, if he wasn't so damn cute he'd be gone a long time ago..

another 80 today, mount is solid. Only if my rifle was as consistent as my scope and mount.....
