Hey guys; I've got an old but in very good shape squires bingham m16. Both me and the kids love to shoot it but the sights are crap! Rear peep and a strange front post. Has any one out there modified the same rifle with a scope or red dot optics? Pics would be great if you have them.:)

I've had a couple over the years I LIKE THEM VERY MUCH mine functions better than my 10/22 you can take off the carry handle as stated and put on a scope

Had the carry handle fall off while running around. Spent hours looking for the extractor on the ground once as well. Great rifle.

I have one as well. Love it. 15 000 rnds plus and nothing but abuse.

I once had a cheap tasco red dot mounted on top of the carry handle but I had to make a wedge shaped "spacer" to bring the front of the dot up because of the angle of the handle.. Actually, it was two small pieces of metal joined together with a couple of tapped holes in the bottom so it could be screwed from inside the carry handle. Took quite a bit of dicking around but it looked pretty cool after and worked great. Made for a very comfortable shooting position too.

buy a 3/8th dovetail to weaver adapter and slap on a scope or a red dot. My brother in law has one and that's what I did to his. Works great. You can get the adapter from D&L airguns in BC and only cost about $30.

Is that with or without the carry handle? If I can find my cheap red dot I want to put it back on again but don't feel like making another adapter.

That would be without the carry handle the carry handle clamps on the groved reciever it will take any 22 rings or better yet get the adapter to weaver style bases

Yup, like Dez mentioned ... without.

The one I used was made by BSquare, and they only had a couple left. And once they are gone that's it. BSquare does not have an export license an no longer ship their products north.

They look like this ... it'll give you the sorta flattop look :D :p

i own both models. My regular stock one broke down on me internally. Was going full auto. May buy a new one and sell that one for parts.

But when it worked, it worked good!!

wow thanks for the info guys, do any of these changes require drilling and tapping or do the mounts bolt back into where the handle mounts?

Underneath the carry handle is just a standard 3/8th's grooved receiver. Any aftermarket mount will just attach to it the same as the carry handle did.

No drilling, no tapping ... just slap on a mount or rings and tighten them down.
