squirrel hunting tips/tricks

barking like them tends to get them to tell you where they are but it also some time will have them charging at you. other then that keep a eye out for them in the tress stick to the season too eh. if you using a .22lr use what ever bulk shoots good in your gun

I hunt squirrels in the Barrie area. I find they can be a pain on the property I hunt. It's thick, so what I do is take my black lab out, grab two decent size rocks, and "rub and click" them together as fast as I can. Once a squirrel chirps back, my dog goes running and I follow behind her. Works well, but in the off season I have her chasing the city tree rats in my backyard. She knows what she's looking for. Plus she loves eating the organs out of them.

I'm sure you already know this but make sure you keep up with De-wormer.. Did a study on internal parasites of various woodland critters years ago and treerats were fairly high on the list. Not sure about the cross species transmission of the nematodes in particular though.

This may sound weird but try having a fire. We have tried it and a small smoky fire near a stand of spruce will attract a few of the curious tree rats. That in combination with a call.

I have a buddy who has probs with squirrels in his Hamilton back yard. He used a cooler with shelled peanuts thrown inside. The lid is held up by a stick with fishing line attached. He caught n relocated 15 in one afternoon.

But sure if you want to eat them.. try it out. Ill pass.
