OK Nutters. I can't nail this down. What is the bolt action rifle in "Winter's Bone" that Ree (Jennifer Lawrence) teaches the little ones to use? IMDB calls it a 541. Not a chance. I'm positive it is a centrefire.

Didn't look to see, but don't expect Hollywood to accurately portray anything gun related... they assume that the audience won't know the difference.

The rifle shown in the picture linked in the OP (below top) doesn't have a bolt handle, among other things, that looks like a Remington 541 (below bottom). I'm unsure of the terminology, but there's a lot more bolt to be seen on the Hollywood rifle than on the 541.

Too much receiver for any of the 541/547 series. Bolt handle incorrect for same. Bolt length too long for same. Receiver "port/breech/ejection port too long for same.
rear of receiver incorrect for same. Too much step from receiver to barrel. Hollywierd didn't make up a gun-or maybe they did? Did see a fully left-handed Mini-14 on the A-Team once?!?!

Can't imagine why they didn't use a real rifle, the NYC makers of that movie went to some trouble to be realistic and true to the area. Maybe it was a question of being photogenic, but anyway Winter's Bone is a good film verging on greatness.

I am guessing both the actors guild and the studio insurance underwriters demanded a rifle prop be used in the presence of children.

Much changed in the industry after The Twilight Zone episode that ended in the terrible death of Vic Morrow and two child actors.

The Internet Firearms Data Base says it's a 541 but as you've all pointed out there are inconsistencies with that ID and it's more than likely a non firing prop gun.
