Not exactly a hunting question, but we have a family of squirrels that have taken up residence in the roof of a garage here.

It's in the city limits, so no shooting allowed. What is the best way to get rid of them?

Ted

Haveaheart traps (live traps). Stay away from poisons, if you have pets. They can eat the poisons or the pets may eat the dead squirrels and get the poison

Haveaheart traps
x2. Ive used them before in my old house. If you dont want to take them out alive, then what about a bb gun? It's not legally classified as a firearm if it's under 500fps. You might be able to use one in your own garage. Just a thought.

Squirrels

X2 for the rat traps.A nice "in the shell peanut" wire tied to the trip is surefire.Don't forget to wire the trap to something so they don't drag the trap into the walls and stink you out in a week.

If you're in a town, check with their animal control/problem wildlife section. We got a thirteen-lined chipmunk that got into our (feed) warehouse recently during a roof repair.

I contacted the city's animal control people and they told me that they lend out live squirrel traps (with a refundable deposit). Maybe your guys have a similar service. Beats the heck out of buying one.;)

I plugged one in the attic 2 weeks ago. Little bastard had found a hole in our wooden sofit. I vented him with a .177 with red dot. Poisons are not cool in the house even in the attic. Blast him! Squirrels are just rats with a better hair dresser.

I know a fellow who got in trouble with the fish cops for trapping a squirrel in a rat trap. Seems he was trapping out of season and without a permit.

Turns out his ####### neighbour found out and ratted on him, because he thought squirrels were to cute to be vermin

I've got a nasty cache of sparrows getting underneath the soffit in the many little eaves of my house. If a pellet gun is indeed legal below 495, you guy's are sure giving me a temptation to put the hurt to these dirty little buggers too.
What a mess. At first I thought, oh neat, a little bird......now they've gone too far. How I wish it was the 1880's so I could just go out with a 12 bore and lay the smack down.

My brother inlaw has some real grief with the squirrels too Ted. They got into the attic of their house and down in the walls! What a Christmas Eve present they got to find a dead squirrel in the exhaust of their electric stove. He said the smell was unbearable. His fix is a little bit different, it includes buying a mobile home, moving out the essentials and then running a muck on his house with his Dad's track hoe! Should be a classic Redneck family event.

^ No, they rocket out around 1000fps. But after 10 feet they're probably under 500. They'd actually be an effective - albeit probably illegal - solution. Quiet, no penetration - so you can use them in the garage without punching holes in your roof or worry about riccochets
