SR-22,597 VTR or MP-161K

as a newbie, i can't really comment on which is better considering i've never fired either one. awhile back, i was looking to get my self a 22lr rifle... ended up on the same dilema, will it be a VTR or the SR22? based on what i've read from forums similar to this one, i ended up ordering a SR22.

finally came this morning thru mail. a few things that i noticed on the one i received today:

- handguard a little wobbly when i got it. easy fix though; it was just a matter of tightening the two screws that hold the handguard assembly.

- the v-block, based on its location, seems to push the barrel slightly upwards. i was under the impression that the barrel (looking from the muzzle end) will be centered on the round handguard. either the handguard or the barrel is misaligned. i'll tinker with this one before i bring it to the range this weekend.

- the retractable stock is pinned. that is what i ordered in the first place... a "fixed" retractable stock. easy fix... 'just replaced a different stock.
everything else seems to be in order. given the time, i shall do mods on the bolt release as described in other threads. pictures below shows what i've done to this new puppy of mine so far:

i have yet to see how this puppy performs. btw, i'm only limited to winchester high velocity rounds. i hope they will work very well with this rifle. i'll provide an update on performance once i take this to the range.

Prelude, could you tell me what type of rear stock you put on your sr.
Bought one last week, (took forever to get one in Canada ) so far I love it. Also, what sight did you put on there? You have a great looking rig there.
Thanx in advance,
:DKen:D

MP-161K, i bought one recently and its awesome. you would need high rings to set up a scope on it though just so you know. the only thing i have against it is it only comes with 2 9 round mags and i don't think you can buy any by itself

Being the previous owner of dirtdriver's MP-161K I can say I found it to be one hell of a accurate shooter... The fact that is looks like something out of a Scifi movie is just a bonus!

i own both the VTR and the regular rifle version of the 597
i havenever had a single issue with either and out of approx 300 rounds in the VTR only 2 misfires....ammo related
out of approx 700 rounds in the regular 597 not one single misfire or hangup ejecting....this could be attributed to a good box of ammo
im shooting almost strictly the federal ammunition

ultimately it comes down to look and feel and personal preference.
it also helps to read the posts to see the feedback with these rifles

another trick to use would be to have your friends buy them, and you can shoot them first before you make your decision

I've put about 1500 rds through my sr22. No issues
I had a couple miss feeds when the mags were new but
haven't had a single jam in the last 500+ rds
I can't really comment on accuracy since I'm using a vortex red dot at 50
yards when I'm at the range usually still in a 2" group but that's just my
poor shooting
buy the sr22, a couple of high cap mags , and a speed loader
the availble upgrades and parts for a ruger are unmatched

last outing with the gun , it was getting used hard. One guy loading and another shooting, the switch and repeat. Put a full brick through it in about
an hour. The barrel got warm but defenetly not hot. I was very impressed and so was my buddy who was shooting the sr22 for the first time. He ordered his the next morning
