i am looking at putting a standard colt style handguard and a2 buttstock, along with carry handle onto my sr-22.

i know the buttstock and handle won't be a problem, but can you tell me how/if the handguard will assemble onto the rifle without any modification?? will i have issues?

pic of the current configuration. i like it as is but the current handguard is too heavy and the rifle feels unbalanced

IIRC ... you will have to remove the handguard and barrel nut. Then you can install a delta ring assembly onto the rifle chassis. If you want to round out the look, you can install a front site tower onto the barrel which is .750 if you are still using the oem factory barrel.

thanks alot. i will look into sourcing those pieces.

the optic is a cheap NCSTAR mil dot scope, but holds up fine on a 22lr once you have a bit of blue loctite in place on the nut holds zero just fine. it latches onto the weaver rail. for 125 bux u cant go wrong.

........ and even then, the front sight will be at the wrong height
in relation to the picatinny rail on the receiver.

hmmm. something to consider definitely. so basically i'll have to sacrifice the option of backup iron sights and find a handle with a weaver mount on top to accomodate the scope...

dlaskarms dot com offers a short handguard set up that is lighter, and measures in at about 7". I it can be mounted without the rails if you are looking for a lighter set up.

i'd like the ergonomics of a full size handguard but want to lighten it up a bit

Go with a top rail (at least), it's not that heavy and it will stay
at the same height with your factory receiver rail.
That way you can use back-up sights like MBUS or whatever that mounts
directly on the rail.
