I'm looking to buy a new plinker and i have narrowed it down to those two but i have a few questions i cant seem to get an answer to.

Is the SR 22 restricted or not? i got different answers.

do they make speedloaders for the model 597? i didnt find anything googling for it.

Why is the ruger almost 100$ more than the remington? they're basicly the same thing.

please, no fanboyism, if you dont like eiter of the brands just say why and leave it at that thank you :)

I have both. If I could keep only one, it would be the SR22. They are both accurate but right out of the box, you have to work on the 597. I replaced the extractor and put in a target hammer. Now it works properly. That and retightening the guide rods. It's a lot of fun to shoot and gets lots of attention from friends and family. It is finicky about the ammo you put through it.
Go to Rimfire Central.com and other rimfire websites. Extractor issues in new 597 rifles is a common topic as it is here.
The SR22, in my opinion, is well worth the extra money. It is equally accurate but works right out of the box. It is much easier to modify it as almost all AR parts fit. It is a very sturdy gun. I found the VTR to be loose fitting and it is also no fun taking it apart to clean.

When I replaced the free float tube on the 597 there was a piece of heater hose in between the barrel nut and the barrel. I don't understand that. Remington makes excellent rifles and shotguns. I don't think they put the care into this rimfire that they did with their center fires.

Neither one is restricted. If you mean hi cap magazines (speed loaders?) Remington makes one in a 30 rounder. It works for me if I put in only 25 rounds. There are other better quality hi cap magazines available. Check out Mystic Player on this website, he carries them.
If you can get Tactical Innovations 25 round mags for the SR22 you will be very happy with them. There are things that could also be better on the SR22 but they are relatively minor.

I also know there are going to be a lot of people who disagree with me. Just my .02 cents worth.

Thanks for the reply, i had already read a couple of your posts and i have found them interesting.

By speedloader i meant a device to fill mags faster, i have only seen one for the 10-22 mags, but i dont know if it's for the aftermarket high cap mags or the stock ones.

Ruger SR 22

I have one.....very satisfactory....and definitely non restricted but I carry the registration in case I am stopped by police as it looks "bad". A proven action (the Ruger 10/22) on a well built platform

Stock mags are rotary so not sure if the loader for the single column mags will work... never tried.

Hit the nail on the coffin but frogot to mention 1 thing...
There is no speed loader for the 597 only the 10/22 & trust me. It makes a world of difference. As for the hose I feel ripped off. I never got 1 with mine
