Hey there,

last week I was ready to order a GSG 1911 as an cheap training tool beside me M&P pro.

Then on the weekend a member at my range let me shoot his SR 22 and I was kinda hooked. After reading all the great info on the rimfire forum about the SR 22 I'm totally torn to make a decision . All those options to trick it out and putting things on it gives me an crazy giggle.

The GSG is gonna be cheaper over the long run but the SR 22 is a Rifle and something totally different as I'm not considering to buy an real AR Rifle because of ammo cost .

So, what do you think ? ( something more then " get both ( I know) " for now ,please )

I just took my GSG out for the first time yesterday and man all i have to say is its the best rimfire i have shot in awhile.Very accurate and fed and fired 300 rnds with no problems.I just might pick up another one.

Go for the rifle, its alot more usefull, higher capacity mags, more accurate at longer ranges and you can hunt with it.

Depends on how you want to use them. GSG 1911 if you do all your shooting at a range. Or the SR22 if you plan on taking it out into the field for gophers or small game hunting. The handgun being restricted would be the deciding point for me, so I would go with the SR22.

but ... GET BOTH :D ;)

You and I have a couple things in common
We both have an M&P, and both want an SR-22 and a GSG 1911.
I bought the SR-22 first about six months ago and will purchase the GSG in one month - very pleased I choose the SR first, but expect to spend, or at least consider spending much cashola on upgrading the SR, cuz that's what a lot of us do, and it's why i've had to wait to buy the GSG.
I may have done it the other way around though, just because ammo is cheap, and the GSG won't need much, before you can start looking to buy the SR also.
The rifle will give you something very different to shoot though... away from the range too :D

Ok,getting both is always an option, but
Then let me ask like this : which one first
And why ?

Well, if you are going to buy both, if you bought the GSG first, you will likely own both firearms the soonest. If you buy the SR, you may have to wait longer to own both considering upgrades and so forth add up, would you like fries with that?

I own both and would still buy the GSG first. Since you are already a handgunner it makes the most sense. TO say you would delay the GSG purchase is stretching it though. Yes I love shooting the SR but the GSG only got upgraded grips, I have big hands, and I have never looked back. The SR is getting mods to make is more my own so it will cost you cash after purchase to do it up.

Seriously though as the guys that own both here have said the GSG wins for my vote to purchase first. I was patient and bought the SR used and got a deal.

GSG first, it's cheaper! I have put a lot of money into my SR22 and I love it, but it would be better to spend the $400 bucks on a GSG and shoot it while you save up for the SR22

How much money I would have to
Spent to make the SR22 shootable and
also good looking , you think? I think it
need right a way sights or an optic to
start?

All the money I would safe on that I
Could put into 22ammo for the GSG!

I own both. Buy the GSG first to save money over shooting center fire handguns at the range while getting alot more practice. Then purchase a used SR22 on the equiptment exchange for less than new, probably with aftermarket upgrades included if your lucky. I predict there will be alot of SR22's for sale on the EE if the new ISSC .22 scar clone, or kel tech .22 rifles come out this year.

You can buy an inexpensive optic for the rifle for under $100, and that's all you "need".
Tactical 22's however are less about need than they are about feel, aethetics, coolness factor, etc.
As for money saving for ammo, well at $25 a brick, you can't shoot nearly as much ammo as you could spend on upgrades, so not too much of a consideration really

I own the SR22 and just had it out for the 1st time this weekend. To make it the way I wanted I'll list the mods and price and you be the judge.
SR22 $549
Dlask rails $109
Thread barrel (Dlask) $60
Flash hider (dlask) $35
Fab Defense grip/Bipod $85
Vortex Sparc red dot $216
2 Butler Creek Steel lip mags $78
Tactical Crayolas $2

So I'm into a "cheap" 22 for $1134 plus taxes!!!!

It is fun and very accurate and has the look that I was going for. Optics are a bit on the small side. But after spending what I did I cant justify the EoTech that I wanted on it.

holy moly ,1134$ plus taxes is a lot of money on that gun. But I bet it looks killer cool.

I think I tend towards the GSG right now and buying a used SR 22 when the the models come out is also a good advise .

ok guy's ,

I pulled the trigger on an GSG 1911 :dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

Went into Williams Arms and they had one sitting there. I think it felt lonely so I look'd at it and bought it right away. 395 plus taxes is a good price for beeing in a local shop and I safe the shipping by picking it up by myself. I got also a spare magazine for 25 plus taxes !

Ha, can not wait to get it transfer'd and to the range ! Thanks for all your help and lets see when the SR 22 is coming ?!

BCboy,

Which of the two (VTR or SR22) would you recommend. I'm talking stock right out of the box without any accessories. Most concerned about reliability so is the extra $ for the SR22 worth it?
