Sr 22 scope mounting

So i just picked up a Sr 22 today and i am wondering what height of rings i am going to need to mount a 3-9x40 scope on it and be able to look through comfortably? Or is there a special mount for these guns? Thanks in advance!!
 
I was told I needed high mounts if I wanted to put optics on the gun...but I found that I got an excellent cheek weld with my red dot mounted as low as possible...so it all has to do with your cheek bones and where your eye sits once you've got the gun snugged up right. There's no one size fits all mount.
 
also depends if you are going to have the hand guard top rail installed. if so, you need to have high rings so the front bell of the scope clears the rail. if not, a set of mediums should do the trick. you can try lows but you may not get the eye relief you want.
 
You will want High rings or 1" from bottom of scope tube to top of rail. This is the height used and recommended on most AR's which the SR-22's Nordic Components chassis is based on. Any lower and you will have to cant your head in an unnatural position. But, it somewhat depends on your proportions.

Yes, that is the procedure for a sporter style rifle but, not for a tactical carbine style. AR's and the like use a stock that is close to straight in line with the barrel or even higher. This puts you cheek weld much higher up then a monte carlo or even straight line cut sporter stock. Because of this you need to mount the scope higher up to get a comfortable cheek weld. And dont worry about parallax either. It is just a matter of training and knowing your scope. I can hit 1.5" disks at 150 meters and immediately switch to 50 meters and hit dead on just buy knowing where to hold. This year my best shot with my modded SR-22 was a pop can at 300 meters. So, these guns can be great shooters. I bet my SR would give some guys benchrest guns a run for their money.

I don't actually have an SR, it's the "dealer exclusive", stainless with the ATI folding stock. $200 less than the SR.
My stock came with an angled adapter, brings the rifle up so you're looking just over the rail.
It's only a .22 so you're not concerned with keeping the stock inline with the bolt/barrel line.
 
yeah i figured i was going to need high or extra high rings to put a normal scope on it. Im also throwing around the idea or possibly putting a red dot or "iron" sights on it. Am i going to have to have these mounted high as well?

Just buy, a red dot, buis, or fixed sights for an AR and they will be at the right height.
 
Here is what it will look like with high rings in case you were wondering. This is mine with Burris Extreme Tactical Rings (High 1") and a Leupold VXII 3-9x40with Butler Creek scope caps.

It is wise to keep your sightline as close to the bore as possible... it allows you to work with the trajectory in a more predictable fashion... for a 40mm scope you will need nothing higher than MEDIUM rings... these will allow a positive cheek weld but not render the sightline too far away from the bore.
 
With the sr 22 medium rings are to low.. i had some ans tried them but you can not get a sight through the scope. Thats why i asked the question on whether there are special rings or if i just need to find some extra high ones.
