I have been offered a tempting trade deal for a ruger SR-22, but the rail screws have been stripped and re threaded to 8/32, but it apparently still wont hold the rail tight.
Im thinking it could maybe be further threaded to 10/32 but the rail would need to be modified, or a heliocoil if the receiver is thick enough... Maybe brass brazed an re threaded... What do you guys think? How much would it cost for a new receiver housing? Or can you even buy just the housing?

Should I just not do the trade? I'm put off by the fact that the sighting system is dependent on a steel screw to worn out aluminum fit.

I had the same problem. The screws are too small and shallow threads. Forgot what size I drilled and tapped but I put quite larger screws in. I marked and cut them to the proper length and used red loctite. Haven't moved at all. It would be a simple job for a machine shop.

I'd move along, save the aggravation - not to mention whatever you save, you may have to spend at a shop getting it right

We are talking about the 10/22 receiver correct? Nothing is wrong with the SR-22 (Nordic) Chassis?

How much of a deal are you getting?

A new 10/22 is $220+taxes... I've seen receivers go for $50. If you could get a receiver, tell him to keep his stripped receiver but take all other components.

Evaluate whether or not it is still worth it :)

My concern is that the very easy fix of using an 8/32 screw set has been done already, and he's supposedly still not able to tighten it down properly.
Btw, it's a trade deal for my marlin 60ss laminate. Which I know... Would be an awsome trade as long as I can make it work fo me. I won't be taking it to a machine shop, I have a machine shop, it's the fact that it's steel screws in an aluminum receiver that is already stripped that has me wondering how much work I'll need to do to make it hold tight. Having never seen one in person I don't know how much is involved with the chasis. I can stell epoxy it together with 10/32 screws if need be, but do I need to remove the rail to field strip it?

The reason I'm humming and hawing is my 60 is the bees knees, albeit less valuable, it has many features the SR does not and is as accurate as a particle beam. I just like to change things up sometimes ya know?

Hmmm, well I've got an SR and I've been considering getting a Marlin, making me think..
What features does the Marlin have that the SR does not? Does it literally have a particle beam?

It has a last shot bolt hold open, auto bolt release, factory iron sights, stainless barrel... And yes, it fires a veritable beam of lead particles... If you pull the trigger fast enough.

I must admit however... All this talking about how awesome my marlin is, is making me reconsider my trade plans. I'm here and I'm there...

It has a last shot bolt hold open, auto bolt release, factory iron sights, stainless barrel, grooved thick aluminum receiver (Better than tapped for aluminum IMHO)... And yes, it fires a veritable beam of lead particles... If you pull the trigger fast enough.

Well, my rugers are awesome :)
Why not keep the Marlin AND get a ruger?

You can edit your posts btw ;)

NO WAY... get right out of town!

Typing on my iPhone is annoying enough nevermind editing a post more than once. I assume most people are clever enough to figure out what I meant. F'n auto spell and the tiny keys are a right pissiff. See what I mean?
Fcuk it.

Awesome!! w:h:
Now we can finally chew your azz about owning a Ruger. :owned:

Baaaaahahahahaha!!! I was waiting for that lol!!:p
I wouldn't expect any less. In my defence I never said they were crap, I said they were overpriced comparatively.
And i have decided to keep my 60 after seeing linziisdads thread comparing his SR-22 to his CZ 455. The CZ groups look a lot like my 60's groups. WTF was going on with the ruger i dont know, but apparently its quite typical. im not Ok with that. So sorry wham-o, im still saying the ruger is not worth the money, in fact i wouldn't even trade my "cheap" model 60 for one.
