SR22 vs. 10/22 archangel AA556R Questions

Strange none of my AR guards bolt up directly in this manner?

If the guards are designed with 2 hole mounting as used with after market 22 kits sure but none of my AR guards use 2 bolts they use slip rings....

Na mate, for the SR22, TEG is right. All AR HG stuff (D-ring, FF tubes, etc) screws directly on to the threaded "bbl nut" that is integral to the SR-22 front assembly.

I wonder if you are thinking about the larger threaded part the ruger HG screws on to, the threaded portion where the locking ring is? That is *not* the thread we're discussing. That one can be a right basterd to remove.

Here's a pic...

Green arrow is the integral threaded part of the Nordic Components / Ruger SR-22. These threads will fit any AR-15 handguard I've tried.

The red arrow shows the threaded base of the SR-22 handguard. Typically, when SR-22 owner remove the OEM HG, this is what they see. This is a part that Ruger uses a fair amount of locktite on and can be a challenge to remove.

Thanks I thought he was talking about removing the adapter that attaches with 2 bolts to the main stock assembly. Looks like both kits use the same mounting idea of having 2 bolts connecting both assemblies, my misunderstanding on the ask. And sorry I mixed up Troy and Nordic as they seem to battle it out with each which is better.

Question I see the back end of the handguard being held in place now what do you use for supporting the front part of the AR as my AR has the front sight assembly that holds the front of the grips in place.

HI Randy, I use the same thing to hold the hand guard in place on the SR-22 - an AR FSB for a HB (.750) pushed flush against the end cap for the hand guard.

Thanks that helps, I also prefer the Nordic kit as well but for the 140.00 cost of my poly kit I bought the short barrel. Unfortunately I would rather put the money into my AR or handgun as I just cannot justify all the costs building up my 10/22.

By the time I bought a Nordic kit or SR22, added the Nordic rails, swapped out the pistol grip, and added a nicer buttstock I would have way too far (1000.00 plus) into a 10/22. :(

But at the end of the day if you have the money why not. :)

Yeah, most times its cheaper to start with a SR-22 rather than use a 10/22 + Nordic + stock + HG + bbl.

That being said, I've scored the odd deal on a SR-22 chassis here on the EE that has found its way onto a 10/22.

Just to add to the confusion (choices) check out the new AR stocks (for the 10/22) from ATI. They are a combination of plastic and metal and look really sharp. Of course you can always get an aluminum Troy stock as well. TC

Looks great, thanks for the link! Going back and forth between the SR-22 and T-22 conversion, but your build seems to be pushing me to the SR.

The picture you just posted is the Archangel magazine correct?

Yes, the 2 pics above show the same Archangel mag with and without the slide on sleeve.

I have not seen and handled a T-22 yet, but it appears form the videos and pictures, that I have seen, that it has a one piece receiver cover and fore end. I prefer the ability to change fore ends, but if this is not important to you, then the T-22 looks like a great choice.

Cheers
