Looking for opinions from folks who have handled and shot the Ruger SR45 and the Glock 21. Both have features that I like and dislike. I'll be making a trip to the local shop in the next week to handle both. But I'd like views from those who have shot both. Nobody at the club I belong to own either one that I've been able to find so shooting one is not an option before I decide weather or not to buy one. My only current pistol is a Ruger Mk III .22LR. I know I should buy a 9mm next mainly due to cost of ammo but have wanted a .45 forever and can pick up a 9 later. I'll put up with not shooting .45 as much just to scratch the lifelong itch. And I'll also start reloading to feed it.

I'm leaning towards the Glock mainly because I've wanted one for about 25 years. I've shot a couple of G17s and hit well with them. It's been years since I held a 21 in a store so want to check how the bigger grip feels. The one I'll be looking at will be the Gen 4. It'll come down to which feels better in the hand and probably my mood that day. Or may even come to my senses and buy a 9mm. Oh the pain of choices.

And before someone pipes in "1911 for .45 or nothing", not what I'm looking for at this time.

If you're used to the glock platform already the 21 is very nice. I put the medium back strap on my 21 Gen 4. I shoot my 21 better than my 17.

You can't go wrong with any Glock.

.45 gets expensive fast so try and get into reloading.

Ruger is cheaper, glock has a better rep. As much as people can list what THEY prefer, really, it`s about what YOU prefer. There are many, many,MANY options out there for polymer .45`s so make sure to do your homework.

That being said, you know you will eventually want one, so ...

Glock 21 3rd Gen all day long. I'm sure the Ruger is nice, by no means are Rugers crappy, they make solid firearms, but the all American Glock .45 is a legend. I've actually owned it twice....sold the first one to fund another project, missed it so much so I out it again a year down the road.

The large frame G20/G21 are MASSIVE compared to the Glock 17 9mm. I still remember holding the two side by side before buying the .45 Auto (being my Fav caliber), the Glock 21 slide is huge and I love it. In the "real world" where can you beat a 13+1 capacity in a .45 Auto ??? Simply amazing. Even in Canada, those double stacked 10-round magazines are great compared to 1911 magazine.

VERY accurate too....the Glock 21 recoil isn't too bad either, and relatively light weight compared to steel framed handguns. The Glock 21 SF is also something you might want to look into, IF you find the G21 too big a grip. My G21 sported factory night sights an a Streamlight M3X Tactical Illuminator on the rail which looked pretty bad@$$

As per Glocks...it's a 3rd Gen stamped AUSTRIA or its nothing. Can't stand 4th gen or those USA marked Glocks. Am I the only one??? What a discrace...pathetic. Glock put Austria on the map and some corporate tool folded and agreed to have USA rollmarks on the slide. I would never buy one. Must be rollmarks Austria.

Glock Perfection ;)

G21
G21 again
G17
G27 sub compact .40

....and I loved them all the same.

I own a Gen 4 Glock 21. I do love it but it's a lot to Handel.i don't have big hands so it's still hard to keep a good grip. Hot ammo like wolf reloads it becomes snappy. But S&B 45 felt awesome to shoot. Felt like a 9mm. I still love it. I put Trijicon HD night sights on mine.
