Is SR4756 powder still available? I had a can of Dupont that worked great in my .32 Spl. with cast bullets and it's just about gone. It was in a box of reloading stuff I bought somewhere and it has been in my powder locker for a few years. I noticed it listed in a manual for the .32 and gave it a try. I would like to get some more if it's still available. I called the Gun Dealer in McAdam N.B. last week and they said they had 3 cans. After I drove out there, they told me they never heard of it. Any info appreciated.

Hodgdon Stopping Production of These Powders

Just got off the phone with Mike? at Hodgdon Powder Company. I had inquired about the rumor that they were discontinuing IMR SR4759. He stated there is going to be one more run of this powder in 2014.
When I asked if other powders were going to be stopped he said yes.
Here is the list:
SR4759
pyrodex pellets
IMR 7625
IMR 4007
IMR PB
Winchester Supreme 780
Winchester AA Lite

SR4759 (and also SR4756?) was discontinued in the 1980's I think I remember reading but was brought back after a couple years.
I happened to be at the counter as an order came in at my LGS and the guy pulled 4 cans of SR4759 out of the box. I very quickly asked if any where presold, he said no, I bought all 4. I'm still relatively young so stocking up for the rest of my reloading days isn't really an option for me. I'd like to think I have at least 40-50 years of reloading ahead of me so even at 1lbs/year it isn't really an option :-(

Too bad about the discontinue. A lot of guys really liked 4756 in the race guns. I used to use it, but when supply got spotty - I switched to Vhit 3N38 or 3N37 - similar burn rates, (3N37 is almost exact) a little cleaner. (more expensive)

Never understood the fascination with 7625. Todd Jarrett and Matt McLearn swore by the stuff, but it had the exact same burn rate as HP38/WW231, so it never impressed me much.

Another option to substitute for the 4756 would be Win Autocomp.

I used 4756 in the 38super but with a different comp - went to 115gr jackets and had to go to HS6 to make things "fit". The 115's galloped along at 1600 fps PF 180. Recoil was minimal and gas flow sure made the comp work!

This weekend i bought close to 40 lbs of powder and included was 12 lb keg of IMR 4759.
was told by the gentleman at the counter that it was the last 12 pounder in the country.
